Hey there,
It’s been a while since I posted because my son finally got over the reflux hump. I’m happy to say that he’s a happy eater and doesn’t show signs of reflux anymore. Yeaaaahhhh. But I’m still thinking of you all out there struggling with this awful time in you and your baby’s life.On another note, he’s had ALOT of ear infections. 5 between Sept. and Nov. Does anyone know if it is common for refluxers to have ear problems? My pediatrician said that it is common but I’ve never heard that before. Does anyone have insight on this? Thanks,December 10, 2007 at 4:43 pm #46308hellbenntKeymasterDecember 10, 2007 at 7:52 pm #46315AnonymousInactiveI would say yes, just from what I’ve read here and heard from other moms. The idea that they reflux and the fluid shoots up into their sinuses and ears makes sense to me too.
My guy had so many that we finally got tubes just a few weeks ago! It’s made a HUGE difference!!!December 10, 2007 at 10:23 pm #46319AnonymousInactiveBoth of my girls had lots of ear infections. Kaelyn managed to avoid tubes, but Alex got them last summer – best thing that we could have done for her. I don’t know if it’s related to their reflux issues or if it’s genetics. I also had issues with ear infections as a toddler. Of course, I also had reflux, so who knows?

She’d had many episodes of reflux out of her nose, so I’d figured it had probably gone up into her ears as well. It’s quite common. Was amazing for her, and helped with her hearing a lot too!

Both girls got recurrent ear infections Alexis got tubes at 22months and Taylor had very severe infections that would not go away with oral Antiobotics she got tubes at 11 months. Both girls had reflux but also their daddy had a childhood history of ear infections and tubes as well, he most likely had childhood reflux but it was just not known since he has it pretty bad now.
December 12, 2007 at 10:29 pm #46354AnonymousInactiveHey there – just my two cents but yes, ear infections can be related to reflux but fluid on the ear consistently is also related to allergies – in our case (22 ear infections) we found it was a milk allergy that was contributing to reflux and ear infections. I posted my update in this forum under “found our key – finally.”
Good Luck with everything!

January 17, 2008 at 6:49 am #47433AnonymousInactiveMy 5 month old is always pulling at her ears. When she goes for her needles, her doctor checks her ears and so far has not said anything. After reading this I am wondering if she is having problems with her ears. I thought is was just a habit. She is currently on prevacid and neocate formula for her milk allergy. We are still going through a very rough time. Any advice out there please let me know.
