Hi All!
Dagney’s been on soy milk for about 2 months, and exclusively soy milk for about 3 1/2 weeks. We also cut out her Axid completely about 1 week ago (I didn’t think she really needed it, she’d miss it here and there, without any kind of reaction to it) SO, we’re about ready to transition her to dairy! I was just wondering how you all did it. Our doc told us to start her on foods that have dairy in them, then a little more and a little more, then after a few weeks we can start transitioning from soy to cow’s milk. What did you all start your little ones on? Is there one food that’s better than others to start on? I was going to start with crackers or someting (like the little cheddar ones Gerber makes), and then do a little for a few days, then a little more etc… Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!
Thanks!!

Ben absolutely LOVES the baby goldfish crackers. They are a great finger food and make a great snack. Then we moved to yogurt, as it seemed like it would be the easiest to digest with the live cultures, etc. Now he is eating yogurt and various foods with milk/butter in them, like mashed potatoes, etc. That’s where we are right now, but my next plan is to try cheese for a bit and then start with actual milk.
It’s hard for me to tell if he is bothered by it all or not. He started having trouble with his ears at around the same time, but now that he’s had tubes, that’s should be cleared up. He will wake up during the night and fuss for a second or two, and I can’t tell if it’s something bothering him, or if he is just sleep transitioning and looking for his pacifier or something.
Anyway, I hope it goes well for you. Keep us posted.

I started with one a day and now we can do two serves a day (not all the time though). I am less worried about milk in food as well. One of these days I’m going to stop buying soy milk and just bite the bullet!

Looks like our dairy trial has been put on hold for a little while…she’s seemingly been doing great for the last week eating goldfish crackers, some foods made w/ milk, cheese, or butter, but she’s onto her 2nd bout of Sinusitis in 2 weeks, it never completely went away, and she’s been up coughing for the last 4 nights. She’s back on amoxicillen & we’re going to be giving her Claritin at bedtime. (That also means I’m pushing the acidophilus up to 3x/day again, she had horrible diarhea when she was on the antibiotic last time!) The pedi seems to think it’s being caused by a mold allergy so we need to treat them both and hopefully it’ll all go away (my dh & I both have that), but he also suggested holding off any hidden dairy until the allergy stuff is taken care of. That puts a little kink in my plans–I was hoping Dagney could enjoy the Christmas Lasagne at grandpa’s house this year, but maybe next time!December 4, 2007 at 8:30 pm #46126AnonymousInactiveOh man! I’m sorry to hear that Dagney is sick! I swear they always wait for something to happen like illness or teeth JUST when we’re trying to figure things out!
I will add, for future use, that we started with a yogurt trial before we switched to milk. She was able to tolerate yogurt 4 months before we could successfully switch to whole milk…but being able to eat yogurt and all hidden dairy was just fine with me!
Good luck whenever you are able to try again!

Good Luck when you start it again!I also wanted to say that We are doing the same thing right now too! And it has been sooooo good! We started with butter.. and then foods with dairy….and then Kefir drinks(almost like yogurt but more digestable)… now we just started yogurt two days ago.. and so far so good. This is where things tend to go wrong in the past.. soooo I am crossing my fingers here! I dont plan on going to cows milk after this step anyhow. I dont think he needs it… Plus its just sooo hard for normal people to digest anyhow. A yogurt a day is one serving of dairy..and then we do rice and goats milk.. and your soy milk is plenty as well. I think I might try cheese and cottage cheese after the yogurt..and that would be a big source of fat and calcium.Anyhow.. I hope it goes well.. and keep us updated! -
