I live in Wilmington, NC and I am searching for a good specialist or pediatrician that will increase Jackson’s prevacid dose. I am willing to travel if necessary. I will be in the Dallas Fort Worth area around Christmas time. I have seen a lot of people mention Dr. Lyn Hunt. I am not sure if I should go to an out of state doctor since I will only be there for a short period of time. Does anyone have any good recommendations. My doctor has told me that he would never do more than 15 mg/ day of prevacid. Thanks.

Dr. Cathcart was our third try, and by the time I reached him I had already increased Nathan’s dosage myself to 30 mg. The highest that the previous peds would go was 15 mg, but I had just a few leftover solutabs from my older son’s reflux days. After I increased the dosage to 30 mg, I saw improvement within 2 days. Granted, everything wasn’t perfect; we still had some issues to work out (like how to break up the dosage, which time of day he needed it the most, etc.) but he was NOT crying all day anymore, thank God!Anyway, so I went to Dr. Cathcart and told him everything we had tried — Zantac, Axid, Prevacid at 7.5 mg, 15 mg, 22.5 mg, and that only did we see improvement at 30 mg. He really took his time with me, and he agreed to write the prescription for 30 mg. He said that he was aware of the research that says PPI’s are underdosed in infants, and that Nathan was not the first baby he had done this for. I did get the feeling, however, that he wants babies to try everything else, including Zantac, possibly Reglan, thickening feeds, etc. before going with a high dose of Prevacid.Good luck!! Please let me know if you decide to make the drive. Hopefully he would be of help to you.November 15, 2007 at 7:28 pm #45499hellbenntKeymaster(for everyone: if you have not already done so, please post the good, the bad & the ‘ugly’ here to help others:

I worked there when I was in college and almost worked there after graduation but moved to VA (which was almost 7yrs ago) so I have no clue who is there anymore, but they have wonderful docs so I am sure you might be able to find a good ped GI or even Ped there and then you wouldn’t be going too far from home… I know not too much help.

I do not want to be overly optimistic, but right now the 15 mg of prevacid in the morning, followed by two 1.5 ml doses of zantac at night seem to be working. I have a specialist appointment with UNC Hospital in December. I will let you all know whether or not they are good. They have a lot of satellite offices in N.C.
