Hi,
We thought that our DDs feeding aversion was finally under control ( only feeds while sleeping expressed BM) after 2 months of suffering and using Zoton, Zantac, probiotics, motillium and losec with caracream . We started giving her losec directly without additives about a week ago; we just emptied the granules in the capsules and she had no problem taking them. She finally started drinking her expressed BM while awake; she was still a bit fussy but much better than before. However, today was a horrible day as she fought with every feed and she was extremely fussy and seemed in a lot of pain . She would not take the bottle even when sleeping. We tried Mylanta but didn’t work. I really feel that this will never end. I just want her to get a bit better and not suffer as much

I have a few questions- first, how old is your daughter? Secondly, how long has she been having feeding problems? Third, what is her behaviour like when you’re trying to feed her? How long has she been on the losec? How long did you try the losec in CaraCream before stopping it? What is her dose and how much does she weigh?I have two thoughts- First: Have you ever had a feeding evaluation done? This is usually done by an OT or an SLP and they watch to make sure that all the components needed to feed are in place like sucking, swallowing, bolus formation, suck-swallow-breathe co-ordination.Secondly, I wonder about MSPI? What are her poops like? When you say that you’re giving EBM, have you ever tried doing an elimination diet to see if that makes any difference? Also, when you’re pumping, are you making sure to pump through all phases of the milk? Our lactation consultatnt thought that maybe Hailey was only getting the foremilk which was might cause digestive discomfort.Lastly, I really wonder if her dose of meds is too low for her. Hailey really needed a higher dose, and while it didn’t cure her feeding problems, it certainly helped overall. About the losec, if you’re opening up the capsules, you need to give them in an acidic medium, like ONE spoonful of applesauce. This needs to be given on an empty stomach and then followed up with a full meal/feeding 30 minutes later. If you just dump the capsules and give the granules directly, then the enteric coating will dissolve before reaching the stomach and the meds won’t work. Believe me, I know how hard this is with a child with a feeding aversion. It was always impossible and that’s why CaraCream was really the best option for Hailey. But a good dose was really the key.Is your daughter seeing a ped GI? If not, given her feeding problems you might want to look into that and see if she needs any testing to see if the source of the issue can be identified.Anyhow, I feel really bad for you b/c I remember the terrible challenge it was every day to try and feed this baby who refused to eat awake or even asleep, and the intense pressure I felt trying to get milk into her. It’s very difficult, and unless people have been through it, no one can understand how horrible it can be. Can dh feed her? Maybe getting a break from it for at least one feeding will help. All I can say is HUGS. BIG HUGS! I know how you feel. I would really try and get the meds sorted out, and if you didn’t try a good dose of the CaraCream for at least 2 weeks, then you might want to see if that’s an option for you to explore again. It really did help Hailey. Hang in there. -
