Hi everyone..
On friday I let shane have some of my bagel that had butter on it (only because he was SCREAMING in the car for some..and I gave in and thought to myself it would be a good time to see what happens anyhow)..SOOO he did well afterwards.. so signs of anything different. I gave him more butter on toast the following day and on Sunday he had more and also had crackers that contained some. So.. Sunday night he woke up once crying. He NEVER wakes up crying unless he is sick. So.. I thought maybe he was cold (its been FREEZING up here!). And then Yesterday I bought some kids keifer drinks (yogurt kind of drinks). And he did soo good the rest of the day! Poops were fine… crankiness was held to the minimum.. ;).. no signs of a rash or anything. BUT last night he woke up crying again! Actually screaming/crying.. and didnt want to lay down in our bed..I gave him mylanta! haha.. always on hand 😉 . And I came down stairs in the living room wiht him and he was quite..and wanted to back to sleep. So.. I dont know what is up!?? DH said he was a bit gassy after his bath last night.. but thats not tooo abnormal. And when he was crying last night he seemed to sound like he was gulping..but that could have been the binky too..So.. should I continue with the trial or stop it? Does it take some time to get used to it and I should stick with it? Or does it sound like he cant handle it???Thanks so much~October 30, 2007 at 2:00 pm #44795AnonymousInactiveGosh, I just replied and when I went to post, it disappeared???
Anyway, it is hard to tell but whenever Seth gets something he can’t tolerate, he will get the same symptons you described- gas, frequent wakings w/ crying and screaming and the silent reflux. It is also usually the night before any noticeable symptons appear. I am guessing it bothers him during the day but maybe he is distracted from it or maybe it is not as severe until he lies down. Sometimes though he does get more clingy. So, I would stop and wait until the episodes go away and try again. If the same thing happens, you know it is the milk. Hang in there and keep us posted! I know how frustrating it can be. Thankfully, Seth can handle hidden dairy now but I keep telling myself we will trial actual milk when he goes a month without a reflux episode and so far that has not happened! October 31, 2007 at 9:27 am #44818AnonymousInactiveHi Tiffany,
Thank you for your help 🙂Last night was another night of it too! He woke up @ 3:00 crying so hard! Then a soft cry.. but wouldnt give up. We tried taking him into our bed..but he was hysterical. We went into the living room again and he sat with us and watched T.V.. then I went to lay him back in his bed.. and he willingly went back in. 5-10 min. later we hear him whining/soft crying through the monitor!!! So.. we got him out.. this time gave him mylanta.. came down stairs again! And put him into bed with us..and he slept there for a few hours..then went into his bed untl late this morning.SOOOO.. what in the world??I was thinking maybe nightmares..but the whining/crying after 5 min. going back to sleep wouldnt really fit that. Then I thought ears.. but wouldnt he be waking up in the early morning crying as well? So.. i guess its the reflux? BUT i didnt hear any gulping.. or anything that would indicate it.What in the world is going on? Any help would be soo appreciated at this point! I dont care about the milk trial anymore.. I only want to go back to a full nights sleep again! 😉 And if you think its the dairy.. then how long should we expect this waking up to last??shanesmom2007-10-31 09:34:09
October 31, 2007 at 11:24 pm #44840AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear about what is going on with Shane! Taylor too has been having a hard time as well, last night she was up crying hysterically as well and I actually had to rock her in my arms until she calmed down which was 15-20 mins later which is very uncommon for her. I too thought ears but she is not running a temperature like she typically does when she gets an ear infection and no discharge. I really think for her it is getting her eye teeth causing all of this! I hope you get some answers and sleep soon! I need the sleep as well! Just wanted to chime in since what a strange occurance that both of our kids were up crying like that last night! She too has never been this way!

November 1, 2007 at 11:14 am #44855AnonymousInactiveI’m glad you got some sleep! I am sorry to hear about the milk trial though, maybe when he is a little older it will work out!
November 1, 2007 at 1:36 pm #44863AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry the milk trial didn’t work out for Shane. Hopefully, he will grow out of his intolerances soon. Is he still thrashing around in his sleep or has that gotten better?
November 1, 2007 at 6:28 pm #44882AnonymousInactiveI am so glad I came on here and read your post. Justice does the exact same thing everytime I try dairy with him. It drives me nuts because he is eating so much now that there are times I just don’t know what he or I have eaten that is bothering him. I am still nursing him. I’m glad Shane is back to sleeping well again. Do you know what age is next for us to try dairy again? Is it two?
