Everything came by fine! CRAZY!!
SOOOO.. what in the world is making him reflux still?? He does do it silently sometimes.. somedays more then others. He does get the hiccups sometimes 10 times in one day! And I have no clue what to do about his constant disrupted sleep!
Since he doesnt seem to be in pain.. and his esophogus is clear.. what would you guys do now? Should I try the prevacid one last time?? and see if it helps his reflux at all? I feel kind of hopeless now 🙁Any advice would help.
ThanksOctober 17, 2007 at 3:54 pm #44373AnonymousInactiveHI,
Did they do a scope? We did the endoscopy too and nothing showed. No esophagus damage at all. Luckily they had put the tube down for24 hours to see if he was refluxing. After the endoscopy they pretty much told us there was no way he had reflux. BUT the scope (tube down throat) showed he was refluxing and had severe reflux. So just because everything looked great does not mean he does not have reflux!!!I was very discouraged after the endoscopy showed eveything was fine (even though I was happy there was no damage) But what else could it be??? SO sure enough the 24 hour scope showed he was definitely refluxing!!!Landon’s is also silent reflux. Always got the hiccups. Coughed alot and would sometimes spit a bit but would go up through his nose. He started at 3 percentile and then dropped off the charts. He did not gain any weigh from 2 months-4 months. We just got him on the prevacid and in 1.5 weeks he gained 6 oz.He would only eat 2 oz at a time. He kicked his legs and turned his head.SO don’t give up it most likely is reflux. IF they did not do the scope I would not beleive it!!October 17, 2007 at 3:58 pm #44374AnonymousInactiveSorry, Maybe I jumped into things. Sounds like he is already on meds for prevacid. I should read thoroghy!!
October 17, 2007 at 4:10 pm #44376AnonymousInactiveHi thanks tamircasper..
he ISNT on prevacid.. he used to be when he was younger..
we tried it and it never helped with his sleep.
I called the GI nurse..and she thinks I should give it one last try @ 30 mg’s.. i told her i need to slowly work up to that, because last time it gave him stomach cramping.
So.. we’ll see! I feel like I am at my ends. I am happy he isnt in pain, and his throat is clear, and he feeds fine.. but the sleep is a joke!
Wish us luck~October 17, 2007 at 4:18 pm #44377AnonymousInactiveIt gives Landon a tummy ache too!!
But it does not last too long and he falls asleep really well.
Do you put him to bed elevated? Maybe that will help.
Landon sleeps farily well but he sleeps in is car seat. He is only
4.5 months. I do have a tucker sling but a really scared to switch things!!
Good luck!! I have been at my wits end as well. It is very stressful to see out kids this pain!!
We just got a higher dose because his has not been working so hopefully it will help!!
October 17, 2007 at 4:48 pm #44378AnonymousInactiveHi Lauren,
Not much help just support! Sorry you are going through this!I will say, though, that Dylan was more intolerance to things that would give him restless sleep and frequent night wakings. Nothing showed up as allergic, and I think the same woudl be true for endoscopy. I think I would still eliminate the most likely culprites and see if he is better.I feel for you!!! Hang in there!Ann MarieOctober 17, 2007 at 5:30 pm #44379AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear you didn’t get any answers! (although I’m sure you’re glad that is was clear too). I don’t have any advice either. I hope the Prevacid helps or you can figure out what’s up soon!

Didn’t they already tell you from preliminary examination during the scope itself that they saw some esophagitis? I remember your other post saying that the doc said that his LES is still open somewhat. The open LES would cause reflux, and the esophagitis gives the suggestion that the acid is giving some damage. The fact that the biopsies came back clear doesn’t mean too much- our GI told us that they only do a couple for EE and celiac and one other that I can’t remember. It’s still possible for him to have allergies or intolerances. I’d put him back on the prevacid, and also try to eliminate all suspects from his diet like Ann Marie suggested. Then at least you know that you’re doing all that you can. HUGS.
October 18, 2007 at 8:50 am #44393AnonymousInactiveI am sorry you din’t get much answer. I also was dissapointed, although happy they didn’t find any damage, but yo know we desperatly want to know what is going on.
I owuld say that kendra reacted to teh Solutabs an dshe is happier on Zegerid. Her throwing up HAS DECREASED a lot and she seems to be “hungrier” than usual. A clean scope doesn’t mean he doesn’t have reflux. it just means he does nothav eany damage. kendra hs a clena scope an dw estill have problems. i would ask about an Impedance test; it is way better than PH probe test b/c it can read acidic and non acidic reflux. kendra acidic reflux was normal, but her non-acidic was not. Non-acidic is as uncomfortabel as the acidic reflux except it doesn’t “burn” or hurts, but reflexing food can still irritate the throat, and esohagus.I hope he improves soon.October 18, 2007 at 9:17 am #44395AnonymousInactiveThanks guys.
Lori- No he doesnt have esophagitus.. he had a little inflamation of his small intestine. And he DOES still reflux.. I know that for a fact.. and the test confirmed that his esophogus is not all the way closed.SOOOO we are going to pick up the prevacid today.. do the 30 mg’s…And I am not really sure what else to take out of his diet! I asked if I should do wheat.. and they said no.. he had 2 different allergy tests for it..and they tested the biopsy for it.I know he could still be intolerant i guess… ugh! It would be soooo much work taking it out! Is it a reason to take it out just because he is still refluxing? I mean don’t all your babies still reflux and you guys don’t take it out right? Like I am having trouble understanding why to take it out.. is it because he is older and still refluxing?October 18, 2007 at 9:52 am #44406AnonymousInactivehi Lauren,
It is so hard to take things out when their diet depends on items. I would do one thing at a time. I know the sleep is still bad for you, so maybe start the prevacid and evaluate if things are better, worse, or no change. Then if things are better, great! Don’t worry about elimination. But if the sleep is not better, or only a little, it might be worth eliminating to see if things get better.Hang in there. We do still not do whole milk or any soy with Dylan or his sleep and behavior are horrible, but no tested allergy. He is also that way with too much sugar or ANY food dye at all. But he can do pizza and other foods that contain milk, but I think if he gets too much we clearly see a difference now.It is so hard, but if you do one thing at a time, you might be able to get Shane’s sleep on track. We are all here for you!!!Ann MarieOctober 18, 2007 at 10:05 am #44407AnonymousInactiveThanks Ann Marie 🙂
I think I know what I have to do.. but its so hard. I am going to do diet first I think. He already is dairy/soy free.. so I think I will just go and get wheat free breads today.. and give it 2 weeks. Thats the right amount of time right? Then I will do the meds.. I’d hate to do the meds for a couple weeks.. and all he needed was a diet restriction. So…here goes nothing!! I will update you all as time goes on..Any advice or tricks to doing a wheat free diet is much appreciated! 😉October 18, 2007 at 11:35 am #44410AnonymousInactiveVans makes some wheat free/gluten free waffles that aren’t too bad. The rice breads are pretty tasteless, but toasted they are not as bad. Hopefully some of the gluten/wheat free posters will give better advice. I do think 2 weeks should be enough to see the difference.
Hang in there!!!Ann MarieOctober 25, 2007 at 9:03 am #44665AnonymousInactiveHey Ann Marie..and everyone else 🙂
Its onmly been 1 week.. but I am going out of my mind as to what to feed him! This is sooooo difficult and he is constantly wanting other peoples foods!Soo I havnt noticed ANY difference with his sleep what so ever..could I call it quits yet???October 25, 2007 at 10:24 am #44667AnonymousInactiveI would stick it out one more week. I know, soooo hard, but if in one week, you still don’t see any change at all, not even a little, then I would not make yourself crazy and then maybe try the prevacid?
I am thinking about you!!!! -
