Hi all,
Thanks for all your advice and help so far – it as been great. Like I said last time, I’m finally experiencing some hope!
I’d like your advice on how to approach my pediatrician to get my babies what they need. First, we discussed MSPI and she agreed that what my babies are experiencing is likely due to that. So, she was willing to write a letter to the insurance to get the Neocate covered. But… she only wanted them on it for 2 months!! I told her that my understanding is that it can take up to three months to even BEGIN working and I’d like them on it for longer. She said she’d be willing to go for six months, but then they need to be moved back to Alimentum. The pediatrician said that Alimentum and Neocate are exactly the same with only the calcium and phosphorus ratios being different I believe. Do you know of any articles explaining that these two formulas are actually different that I can give her? Also, how do you recommend providing her with this information? I think she’s getting tired of me printing things offa nd demanding different dosages based on the marci-kids website.
Next, she agreed to put Joshua and Danielle on Zegerid. It took a lot of convincing for her to agree to the 40mg with the Mylanta added, but I finally talked her into it with the sodium bicarbonate issue. However, she’s still concerned because she doesn’t want the babies to have much Mylanta and thinks this dose is approaching too much. She was unwilling to prescribe the dose as recommended in the marci-kids website, saying she’s really concerned about blood changes and she named something I didn’t catch. Do you know about this? Marci-kids recommended 5-6 mg TID for my son and she initially only prescribed 5mg once a day. The website also recommended 6-7mg TID for my little girl and she prescribed 8 mg once a day. We had a long discussion and I told her that I don’t think the dose she prescribed will impact the GERD at all and I don’t want to wait to see because my babies have been suffering long enough and this MUST come to an end. She finally agreed to those doses BID but for only two weeks, again because of her concern with side effects. Any suggestions on how to get her to up the dose to recommended levels? I think I may have pushed her as far as I can. She reviewed the marci-kids website, and said she’s unwilling to use their recommended doses.
Any other general suggestions/recommendations? I want my babies to get what they need and not to suffer anymore. I know I’ve made some progress, but I want it all better now. Even one day is too much suffering for my babies!!
