Infantreflux.org | How long on apnea monitor?

Hi there!

My daughter was diagnosed with reflux almost 2 weeks ago (she is almost 4 weeks old). She is on an apnea monitor and has not had any episodes. I’m just wondering how long your children were on their monitors. My pediatrician said he thought the average is 3 months but it is up to the Gastro who we have not seen yet.

I’m just curious as this machine is getting on my nerves. I’m happy to have it for the peace of mind right now, but if she continues to do well, it would be nice to know that we can get rid of it.

Kaelyn was on hers until she was 6 months old, but I know we could have taken her off of it sooner. The ped GI left it up to us. We probably could have taken her off of it around 4 months, but we liked the peace of mind. Our situation was a little different though. She was choking on her spit up and turning blue, so she definitely had a strong reason to be on it at first. I think her last episode was around 3 months, but they had scared us so much that we happily kept her on the monitor for a while longer.

jonah was on it for about 3 months- we taped over the speaker so it wasn’t so loud- it still was very loud though…
