Ok, since DS was born (well starting about 2 weeks old) when he eats he sounds gurgly and raspy . Sometimes when he eats (not everytime) you can feel mucous rattling in his throat/upper chest. Most of the time it only happens when he eats or shortly after. Sometimes his nose gets rattly and I use the bulb on it but that clears it up and that usually isn’t at feeding time just every once in awhile (like once every other day) he needs a teeeny bit of sucktioning is all. There is barely anything in there either. Is this common for GERD/reflux? i know DD had reflux too but she wasn’t a silent spitter like DS is as hers always came out and there wasn’t much left in there to “gurgle”. Plus DD’s reflux was almost 9 years ago so it is hard to remember.
Also, in the middle of the night around 3 or after during his last feeding of the night he tends to stay awake doing some loud grunting through his nose quite a bit off and on for several hours! His face gets red as though he is going to have a bm but doesn’t always have one. He doesn’t get blue or stop breathing but he does have crying bouts in that time. This started around 2 weeks ago although he has grunted a lot since birth.jenzbugrulz1978 2007-09-30 07:49:07 September 30, 2007 at 1:13 pm #43535hellbenntKeymasterhttp://www.marci-kids.com/eerintro.html
this shows how in infants their ears, nose & throats are all really close…
you might want to try squirting saline (regular store brand saline is much cheaper than ‘little noses’ and is the exact same thing) at every diaper change to clear things out- no suction- just let gravirty do it’s thing…we did this to prevent ear infections…HTH (hope this helps)September 30, 2007 at 6:41 pm #43544AnonymousInactiveThanks Laura, will have to give that a try!

My GI doc and ped. said the saline drops are useless so I was encouraged to hear you had success because I do not want to use any more meds to clear up his conditions all the time. Did they really help with ear infections? What is the connection between chronic congestion and ear infections? Also, he has lots of wax in his ears – anyone know if that can create more ear infections? thanks!! jennifer
