Well, I took Landen on Sat to the ped bc he was wheezy, coughing and running a fever. We didnt see the regular ped, we saw a fill-in doc bc it was a Sat. He misdiagnosed Landen with sinusitus and an ear infection (he does have that) and sent us home on omnicef. He was progressively worse sunday and I called the emergency line only to get the SAME quack Dr who reassurred me it was a “rather nasty infection” and to give it another day for the antibiotic to kick in. Monday rolls around and Landen’s really bad. By evening time, mommy instinct tells me something is VERY wrong. I called the emergency line again, get another doc who tells me to describe everything that is going on and when I am done he told me “Go STRAIGHT to the ER, don’t go ANYWHERE else I am alerting them that you are coming”.
Landen now has full blown RSV. When the ER check in clerk saw Landen, she said his chest was contracting hard and she could hear him wheezing and that I didn’t have time to check in. She told me to bypass the other moms waiting and go back to pediatric ER. They immediatly put a tube down his nose and suctioned his mucous and tested it, which came back pos for RSV. His chest xray showed swollen airways too. 🙁I am soo pissed at the dr. that saw him sat. We spent the night at the ER and are doing breathing treatments at home every 4hrs.Thanks for listening.September 11, 2007 at 7:58 pm #42480AnonymousInactiveOh my goodness! Poor Landen! September 11, 2007 at 10:17 pm #42496AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry to hear about Landen’s RSV, it is so horrible! I’m glad you got immediate treatment in the ER, RSV is so scary!
September 12, 2007 at 5:05 am #42504AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry to hear that he has RSV! That sounds so scary! I hope he’s feeling better soon.
September 12, 2007 at 10:36 am #42511AnonymousInactiveOh no! How scary! It’s too bad that other doctor misdiagnosed him and he didn’t get treated for it sooner. Thank goodness you were able to get into the ER quickly. I sure hope he gets feeling better soon.
September 12, 2007 at 2:29 pm #42533AnonymousInactiveOh Jill, I’m so sorry! RSV sucks. Ben had it back in February, but thankfully, the docs caught it early. We were able to get by without the breathing treatments. The worst of it was gone by days 4 or 5, so hopefully, Landen will be feeling better soon.

I’m so so so super sorry about the RSV but I’m sure he’ll be better before you know and bravo to you mommy for sticking with your gut! Woooo-hooooo!! I know, big help, right? I hope he starts breathing easier soon, you guys could really use a break. If I lived anywhere close to you I’d be over with a HUGE carton of Cold Stone icecream!!!(that is if you like ice-cream…. It wouldn’t have the same effect if you didn’t) Kate’s Mommy2007-09-15 09:16:19
September 15, 2007 at 10:03 am #42724AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone! You are all so wonderful! I don’t know what I’d do w/out all of your support through this crappy time! The RSV, the job loss.
Claire– I LOVE cold stone ice cream! We have one in town…if you ever come to visit…we’ll devour a huge case of it. LOLSeptember 25, 2007 at 3:10 pm #43302AnonymousInactiveOh wow…how scary. I have heard how serious RSV can be. Do you know if there is a large outbreak where you are? I haven’t heard of any here (I’m in Kansas) but do know of a case of whooping cough & also a staph MRSA at my other kids’ school. I am scared to take my baby even to town to go grocery shopping ,after all he’s been thru already. Best of luck to you & your little one!!
September 28, 2007 at 9:45 am #43434AnonymousInactiveLanden got it in the earlier part of Sept and we are in FL! The ER dr. said we were one of many that had come in that week for one of the earliest RSV seasons he’d ever seen. He warned it would last a couple/few weeks b/c it was going to be a BAD season with it coming so early!
I feel really bad for anyone with a preemie/newborn that was just born in this area right now. I don’t blame you for being cautious with your baby this season! Def leave him at home with someone if you can, if you are going out to a big mall or store where it’s crowded.jilly782007-09-28 09:47:18
