I have a question that might be slightly off topic for this forum (MSPI). My son is 12 weeks old now (ignore my signature – I need to update!) and I’ve cut out milk/soy since he was about 4 weeks. Recently I’ve noticed him breaking out in hives VERY occasionally. I’m almost certain it’s from eggs. I stopped eating mayo around the same time as milk/soy because I noticed he got really gassy/fussy when I ate it. I want to try an egg this weekend to see specifically if he gets the hives, but I’ve read that hives are a “serious” reaction. I’m afraid that I’ll cause some harm. What is your opinion? I need to figure out what it is that’s causing the hives. He’s happy when he has the hives and it’s the only symptom…

Thoughts? Thanks!

hmmmm… I actually don’t know myself about the seriousness of the hives, but if I were you, I would give it try. I would want to find out what was causing the problem for sure, so as to avoid it in the future. That makes more sense to me than just hoping that they won’t come back, you know?

If you are really worried, watch him carefully and make sure you have some benedryl on hand in case they seem to get really bad or he seems to have trouble breathing, etc.

Kaelyn reacts with hives and we were told that we were lucky because it’s not a serious reaction. However, each time they react it can get worse until it reaches the anaphylactic stage, so that’s why they say to take hives seriously. I would just keep benadryl on hand and then try the eggs.
