So my little guy is on Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am, 15 at night. I’m on the elimination diet and feel like everything I eat now has been proven safe. So why isn’t he sleeping? He’s a happy baby during the day, but it seems like so many moms here have said that once their baby was properly medicated their little ones started sleeping well. Is there anything else I can do or should I just buck up and realize that this is as good as it gets?
July 25, 2007 at 1:04 pm #39851AnonymousInactiveI’m not sure but I just wanted to let you know that I can relate!! My Nathan is not much younger than your Gabe, and I am also on the TED, adding foods back in gradually. It is SO frustrating because even though he’s on Prevacid and I’m watching every bite I eat, he still does NOT sleep well either. He can only sleep in the swing and sometimes not for long even there. If we put him in the cradle, he’s awake and screaming in 20-30 minutes. I feel like his reflux is just not under control yet (even though he’s pretty happy most of the time too), and I’ve seen some other moms on this site discussing whether 30 mg would be the magic dose for this age??? Hang in there and let me know what works for you!! I really do understand how frustrating it can be, but I believe that this is NOT as good as it gets. When my first son’s reflux really got under control, he slept great in his bed, day and night. Good luck!!!

I’m sorry your little guy still isn’t sleeping well. I’m sorry, I can’t remember – do you have his mattress elevated? Could he possibly need an even higher dose (I’m not sure how old he is or how much he weighs…). I sure hope you can figure out what’s bothering him and he starts sleeping well soon.July 25, 2007 at 2:02 pm #39853AnonymousInactiveHey Jenn
Does he just not sleep at all during the day or at night? Kate still struggles with sleep but I chalk it up to her just being a baby sometimes. Reflux is so hard because it makes ME so sensitive to everything that happens. Sometimes I just forget that she’s a baby. This might not be the case for your son though and you might need a bigger dose. For the most part though, she sleeps pretty well. Does he just take mini power naps or just not sleep at all? I’m just curious.See this is so hard!!!! I hope the prevacid really works for your little baby!July 25, 2007 at 2:22 pm #39854AnonymousInactiveKate’s Mommy wrote: Hey Jenn

He also seems to have a lot of gas and has trouble burping. He’ll sleep in his swing for an hour at a time and we usually take a 2-3 hour nap together every day. He sleeps fairly well during that time, snuggled right up next to me.
Lately I’ve been letting him sleep with me part of the night and then sleep in his swing part of the night. I think co-sleeping would be perfect if I could just find a way to elevate him a little bit while keeping him close to me. The Boppy worked great when he was little, but now he’s too big and I think using pillows is too risky. Any ideas on that?
July 25, 2007 at 6:45 pm #39864AnonymousInactiveHow about the tucker sling? I know it’s bulky but maybe that would help b/c he would be elavated but close enough to you to smell you and know you’re there? Just a thought!
July 25, 2007 at 11:15 pm #39871AnonymousInactiveI bought a wedge that was made for babies with reflux, it was also a sleep positioner. I had to elevate it more with a blanket because it was not that great. I think I got it at toys r us. I put a pillow at the bottom so she would not wiggle all the way down my bed. I did alot of variations with different sleep positioner on inclines until I found what worked best. Adriana slept with me and still does. Thats the only way she sleeps well, but we still have our restless nights too.

Good luck.Is that the “crib wedge” or something like that? I actually saw on for sale on my local Craigslist!
Update: I’m pretty sure my little guy is teething! He’s not quite 4 months but he has just the tip of a little tooth popped through. So that could certainly be the reason he’s been restless and crabby again! I was really hoping he wouldn’t teeth for a while yet, but oh well.

I think just getting older and outgrowing the reflux (for the most part) has made the biggest difference. He now takes two 1 1/2-2 hour naps most days. His night time sleep is still pitiful, but I think it’s more habit for us as we co-sleep and nurse during the night.

Good luck!I’m sure you’re right. It seems like the reflux bothers him – not because he’s in pain but because it’s coming back up. So I guess we’ll just have to suck it up and deal with it. Oh, and dh did bid on one of those wedge sleep positioners on ebay so hopefully that will help him too.
August 1, 2007 at 1:51 pm #40269AnonymousInactiveHey Jenn,
I think you are the “new” me.. haha. That is what ALL my posts said when i first got on here! , not that you keep posting about it, but it could have sounded exactly like one of mine. I still do this day wonder about they way he sleeps, but i think you nailed it with what you last said.. that its the reflux coming back up but not necessarily causing pain. Shane too has been a happy baby since about 5/6 mos old, and even on 22 and 30 mg’s he still didnt sleep well. BUT here’s the good news 😉 around 7/8 mos he started napping longer lying down.. and sleeping through the night and NOT waking up once. But, he does move around A LOT and kinda squirm a bit. But its sooooo much better than when he was younger! Atleast i can sleep now, and he can get in a good 1 1/2 hr nap a day.sooo, it does get better..and you are a great mom for trying everything you can! You might just want to give the 30 mg’s a try and see if it makes a difference for 2 weeks, just do you KNOW you tried it.. just a thought!but hang in there!!!August 1, 2007 at 1:52 pm #40270AnonymousInactiveoh yea and a way i had shane sleep with me was in my arm kinda.. like my arm was resting a pillow and he was snuggle in my arm.. it helped keep the reflux down. I think the trick is trying to elevate them as much as possible.
