for something I eat to get into my breastmilk??? The lactation consultant at my son’s pediatrician’s office told me it was 2 days, but that seems long to me. Does anyone know or can anyone point me to a link that will tell me? I couldn’t find it on La Leche’s website.
I’m on the TED and just added in tomatoes yesterday around 6:00 pm. When I fed Nathan around 10:00 pm, it was wild….he was obviously in pain, and he stayed up til 1:00 am crying. I can’t think of anything else it could be. He had a really good day until then. Thanks!PaulaJuly 17, 2007 at 8:48 am #39388AnonymousInactiveHopefully, others will chime in, I don’t remember exactly, but I know that several people have posted in the past about quick reactions to food. I don’t think it’s unusual to have a food bother the baby within one or two feedings.

I could not eat tomatoes when breastfeeding Jonahhe was not MSPI, but from doing the TED, I found certain foods that affected himif you try tomatoes again (do it in the morning, lol) and then after the feeding that is 3-5 after you’ve eaten them he reacts, I’d say it’s the tomatoesthat’s how I figured it out…hellbennt2007-07-17 09:05:37

Just wondering — Laura, is the timing different for different foods? I noticed that you wrote, “for something like tomatoes…”Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.July 17, 2007 at 5:05 pm #39432hellbenntKeymasterwell I know that the ‘biggies’ – milk and soy proteins can take 2 weeks to build up in your system, so that’s why the elimination diet helps to pin point mspi…if someone posts that they’re doing the TED and after 2 or 3 weeks there’s still tons of green mucousy diapers or there’s excema, then I would suggest cutting out the rice for 2 weeks to see if there’s any improvement. for some reason, there are a few babies who do react to rice- it’s rare, but not unheard of…
October 4, 2007 at 7:10 pm #43772AnonymousInactiveI am starting the elimination diet tomorrow although we have not really seen any signs she is intolerant to anything I am eating. What kind of things would indicate a food allergy/intolerance? She is a silent refluxer and is unhappy all of the time anyways. We still do not have her meds working for her yet. Also, unfood related, if zegerid doesn’t work for us what will?
October 4, 2007 at 7:39 pm #43773hellbenntKeymasterYou might want to wait until she is ‘properly’ medicated before attempting the diet, especially because you don’t feel like it’s something in your diet…to read more about mspi- there’s a page in the mspi forum that’s stickied (at the top) called ‘mspi what I have learned & allergy info’ –page 2 has an excellent article explaining the difference b/t intolerances & allergies
you might want to try keeping a food journal in the meantime, to see if there’s any pattern to refluxing after you eat- like if there’s a bad reflux episode 2-5 hrs after you eat tomatoes, then that might be a culprit…I don’t think that you’d see an immediate reaction for the ‘major’ proteins like milk or soy or even beef, as these tend to take a while to build up, thus the need for the elimination diet…hope this helpshellbennt 2007-10-04 19:54:12 October 4, 2007 at 7:54 pm #43775AnonymousInactiveYeah, I would wait too.. if you try both the diet and a new med. at the same time, you won’t know which one works and then you’ll be stuck eating turkey and pears for forever.
