Landen is now on Augmentin for another ear infection. Since he started it, he has had odorless blow-out diapers of LOTS of mucous. He is not on solids at all and won’t be for a while. He is on strictly Neocate. Could Augmentin do this?

Hey Jill,

I don’t know a lot about babies taking augmentin but I’ve been on it for Mastitis. Yuck. I starting feeling so sick to my stomach with multiple trips to the bathroom(TMI?)and called the doc and they said augmentin works really well but a major side effect is gastro-intestinal yuck. Needless to say I was a bad patient and stopped taking it I bet you dollars to donuts that’s what was causing Landen’s diaper issiue. It did it to me!!! I’m no expert though but I hope this helps ease your mind a little.

That’s a fairly common reaction to augmentin. Lots of babies have trouble with their GI system handling that med. Alex had the exact same problem. Her ped took her off augmentin and put her on omnicef instead and we’ve stayed away from it ever since.

Colt also has a bad reaction to it. His doctor won’t even put him back on it. It does seem like babies with MSPI have more reaction to meds then others. Colt can’t even handle tylenol with coloring. Go figure. Maybe you can get them to switch to something else. Poor baby.

I have a friend whose little one was recently on Augemtin for an ear infection and she described him as having mutiple blow outs. He does not have reflux so I am pretty sure it is the augmentin. She gives him probiotics while he is on antibiotics and then for a week following to try and help with this. I hope that helps.

Thanks for all of your replies. His poor stomach. This is going on every hour. I am calling his GI doctor to see if we need to go on Omnicef instead.
