Darn it. I hoped to never have to type a thread title like that again. Bryce’s reflux (or I should say vomiting) had gotten SO much better and was that way for a few months! However these past two weeks he has gone from vomiting a small amount once a day to vomiting 2-3oz 3 or 4 times a day!!
Luckily, his Prevacid is still working fine, so he’s not in pain from it. I don’t think it’s his DGE because he’s not vomiting hours later like before; just during and after feeds. The ONLY thing I can think of that’s different is that he’s also had a runny nose these past two weeks. At first I thought it was just a mild cold, but it’s gone on so long now that I started wondering if it is allergies. Either way, I figure that all that drainage might be what’s causing the increased vomiting.
I e-mailed our doctor yesterday and she called me. She wants to start him on Zyrtec to see if that helps the runny nose and in turn helps the vomiting. So we’ll see! I hope it’s not allergies & just the remains of a virus. We’re going to try it for 2 weeks and see if it makes a difference with the vomiting.
Needless to say, I’ve postponed weaning from the night-feeds. We got him down to half of where he was before, but I worry about him losing weight with all this vomiting. Hopefully it all settles down soon and we can finish weaning.
Anyway, sorry for the long post!
Bryce’sMom 2007-6-23 17:50:4 June 23, 2007 at 7:07 pm #37733AnonymousInactiveAwww….poor Bryce. I’m sorry to hear that he’s vomiting several times a day again. That’s really a bummer with all he’s been through, and having those two good months. Hopefully it’s just due to his cold or allergies and the Zyrtec will help.
Ellie used to be prone to these long lasting colds with nasal congestion and/or allergies. I could never tell which it was, a cold or allergies. This year she is MUCH better. I think it may because dh bought these expensive air purifiers – one for each of the children’s rooms and one for our’s. This is the first year ever that he and I have been able to get by with absolutely no allergy medications whatsoever, and I’ve only had to give Ellie Zyrtec three or four times so far. She doesn’t seem to need it anymore. If Bryce does have allegies you might want to try an air purifier.
June 23, 2007 at 7:45 pm #37739AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry to hear about Bryce! Taylor has been on Zyrtec for quite a while now and I think they do help with her allergies. But right now she too is struggling with a cold with horrible nasal congestion, she sounds like a little piggy, but no drainage coming from her nose she is really having problems drinking and vomiting since I think all of that thick stuff is going into her throat vs. out her nose! I hope the Zyrtec works for him!!!
Christine, what is the brand of air purifier do you use? We definitely have to look into buying some for Taylor.
June 23, 2007 at 11:01 pm #37748AnonymousInactiveIam sorry Heather, the reflux is coming back Poor Bryce.
i pray it goes back to normal soon. hugs
June 23, 2007 at 11:51 pm #37751AnonymousInactiveThat’s tough! Hope you figure it out! You certainly don’t want to go backwards with the weight! We don’t have allergies except for my FIL, but I’ve really noticed some things with Owen that make me believe he will have some irritants, especially when it’s been so hot and muggy lately!
Hang in there!
June 24, 2007 at 7:34 am #37759AnonymousInactiveOh no! I’m so sorry to hear that! We always had the same thing with Hailey, and she’s a silent refluxer!… projectile up to 10 times a day though with the slightest cold or virus. HUGS. Hope it passes soon.
June 24, 2007 at 8:53 am #37765AnonymousInactivePoor Bryce… I hope he starts to feel better soon and all this yuckiness goes away.
June 24, 2007 at 9:41 am #37768AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone. I guess I might need to get an air purifier if it turns out to be allergies. I wouldn’t be surprised, as I have allergies and asthma, but mine never bother me in the house. Just if I actually go out in the weeds or if I’m around animals. I never get a runny nose with mine either… I usually have the stuffy nose, itchy eyes and asthma attacks, but I guess everyone reacts differently. I just really hope it’s not allergies with Bryce. I don’t want him to have to deal with that – it’s so miserable!
June 24, 2007 at 10:07 am #37773AnonymousInactiveYeah, allergies are miserable. If my kids end up having them I will definitley get them shots. I didn’t have them when I was a kid. I wish I had.
But since we got the air purifiers my allergies are not bothering me at all in the house!! Only if I go outside and then as soon as I’m in the house for a while they settle down again. And Ellie’s doing great too.
June 28, 2007 at 11:32 am #38194AnonymousInactiveOh sorry Heather… you should try some allergy meds… just in case… we deal with periodic bouts of vomitting… good news is that the setbacks are usually temporary and Matthew catches up pretty quickly these days. Hope the same happens with Bryce..
Also, Matthew is just really affected by heat… it is like if he is too hot, he becomes dizzy and vomits (in this, he is just like his dad… who has fainted so many times from heat…) so i just really watch his water intake when it is hot.
HUGS

July 2, 2007 at 3:13 pm #38416AnonymousInactiveUggghhhh! Heather, we’re in the same boat here! I thought I’d never have to post that Caden was dealing with reflux again, but here we go…
He had an ear infection about 3 weeks ago, and then he had a red, sore throat about 1 week ago. The ped said it was just another virus, but I’m suspicious. I’m worried that it may have been caused from acid reflux, which I thought he had outgrown but has resurfaced since the ear infectionI REALLY hope it was just a virus and we’re on the way back to health and being reflux-free. We see our new pediatrian on Thursday, so hopefully she’ll have some answers or at least a fresh perspective on all of this…I hope Bryce is better soon and back to being reflux-free!Keep us postedJuly 3, 2007 at 12:17 am #38469AnonymousInactiveHi Emily,
I sure hope it is just a virus for Caden and not his reflux! Good luck with that new ped. I hope she has some answers for you! Bryce has never been reflux-free… his reflux & vomiting had just gotten so much better that I was really surprised when it got so bad again. For an update:
Bryce has been on the Zyrtec for one week now and his vomiting has reduced significantly! So I’m positive it was the runny nose and all the drainage causing the vomiting to get so bad. He still has a runny nose even on the Zyrtec, but I guess it must have dried up a lot of the drainage in his throat that was making him vomit. He’s been a LOT less gaggy with food this week too! I just hope he doesn’t have to stay on the Zyrtec. We’ll see.July 3, 2007 at 8:07 am #38472AnonymousInactiveThanks, Heather. I don’t think Caden had completely outgrown reflux either, but he was so much better I honestly thought he had or at least had outgrown most of it. Now I’m seriously thinking we need to try meds again!
I’m glad Bryce is doing betterJuly 3, 2007 at 3:36 pm #38494AnonymousInactiveI am glad that the zyrtec worked! Isaac’s allergies responded very well to it but he was just too sleepy all of the time
