Lauren
How is it going with Shanes eczema. Did you decide to go with the rice milk or soy milk and add alimentum(sp?) to it for the extra nutrition? How long did it take to be off of dairy to see the difference in the eczema….one month or longer?
We went to the doctor and had the allergy test done. It did not show any allergies…that was good but I was then confused about the eczema. The doc said to continue the soy for about one month and do away with all dairy because of his symptoms I told him about. He actually said that the prick test does not pick up delayed allergies. Eczema could be a delayed allergy to dairy. So we are to stay on the soy and try for one month to see if it goes away.

June 19, 2007 at 4:25 pm #37237AnonymousInactiveohh i didnt know that about delayed allergies.. i did hear that there could be allergies or intolerances not picked up on those tests as well. and intolerance def. wont be picked up too well. and as for shane we had to do the test twice! because the first time they thought they saw a couple dots but they wornt too sure.. so we did it all over and they didnt see them until the VERY end. they saw dairy and eggs slightly raised. soo that could be a slight allergy or intolerance.
when we took it out of his diet i noticed around 2 weeks later that his excema was gone. i wasnt even looking for it actually but one night when i was changing him i noticed that i didnt feel anything anymore! i was cool .
anyway, i cant remember what marshall was on before..wasnt it soy? how long has he been on it? if its been one month or longer than wouldnt the excema have gone away by now?? sorrry i am a little confused about that part. i would think if it was still around and you expect a food allergy i would do the enriched rice milk.. i would think that marshall is old enough.. but i am not sure how good his diet is with fats and protiens and if he can do yogurt or not.

June 19, 2007 at 4:51 pm #37241AnonymousInactiveWell we did the soy for about 1 week almost two weeks, the eczema was a whole lot better then my mom came and he ate cheese with my dad. Guess what it flared up again. Then I did the non milk again, read some post tried goats milk. The eczema started to flare up again with the goats milk, but it took about a week to see it come back with the goats milk. Then we had the test done and now we are back on soy milk. We have not been truely on completely soy. I have started the no dairy this week to see if the eczema will go away within two weeks. Then reintroduce the milk or cheese or yogurt to see what it will do. If it does not get better I guess he can just have the milk and we will have to come up with something later.
June 19, 2007 at 8:45 pm #37285AnonymousInactivewhat if he is intolerant to both dairy and soy? than it the excema wont go away right? with that said.. i wouldnt worry about it too much. because, if thats his only sign of intolerance which is excema, than thats pretty good. if its not really effecting him reflux wise or sleeping/eating wise… than i wouldnt worry too much! thats just my opinion. BUT if you do start to feel more comfortable with the rice milk than i would push it further and try that and see if it goes away.. but if you dont feel comfortable doing the rice milk.. than i wouldnt worry too much.. and maybe in a couple months you can eliminate dairy and soy for a while and see what happens?
June 19, 2007 at 8:54 pm #37288AnonymousInactiveohh and i just re-read that you did soy for about 1 week..and it was better until the dairy food. SOO, hopefully it’ll be better again with the soy! i skimmed over that part.
and i never answered you.. we are doing 3 or 4 ounces goat and about 4 or 5 ounces rice milk.. and thus far so good we’ll see in a week or so though.
June 19, 2007 at 8:57 pm #37290AnonymousInactiveI do not mind that he has eczema. I will lather him with lotion all day. It is just when it flares, it spreads, it then itches, then he scratches and then we have no sleep and not a happy camper. Thank you again for all of your responses. You and the others on the board have helped so much.
June 19, 2007 at 9:07 pm #37292AnonymousInactiveyour welcome. and i understand about the itching and scratching part. shane never itched or even got that bad! hopefully the soy will help!!! keep me updated, i’d love to know if it helps.
