Hi you all,
i am sorry i have not been around much lately. Kendra has been a hand full.
I have good news though. as some of you know the month of May and some days of June, Kendra had it pretty rough. we finally figured out what was causing Kendra’s tummy problems. Bare with me as i write this update.
I started by stopping all solids. after two weeks things weren’t improving. I was at a loss, what else could be wrong?; what was i doing diffrent?, She did not have these issues before, so something is going on. then i started thinking of what we were doing on the good days kendra had. After many tears and sleepless nights thinking of ways to help my baby. finally it hit me. The only thing different that was left to think of was the prevacid. At kendra’s 9 month check up, the ped and i agreed to move kendra’s prevacid dose from 15mg to 22.5mg a day, since her reflux is there still. we then eliminated zantac. well, that was a decision that i greatly regret. The extra dose, was making her very sick (i felt so bad, i caused my baby’s pain in a way). you know her tummy was hurting, she wasn’t smiling and she just looked ill.I stopped the extra dose of prevacid plus an extra one and went back to zantac twice a day and prevacid once a day. at the same time, i started giving kendra half pedialyte and half formula b/c she was still so ill looking and unhappy. After two full days, i saw a smile on my baby’s face again, and i noticed she was being a bit happier (wasn’t whining as bad). i got very excited and continue my test. by the third day, we decided to give her regular feedings (very slowly). the first feeding, she did not whine at all and didn’t puke!! Today is day 3 and she continues to be happy. i hope it stays like this. iam pretty sure the prevacid increase made her sick. i called my ped about it and she gave me the ok. We have a set back wt wise, but iam not worry about it.
We finally got a pump today and will be trying it, hopefully this weekend. We also got accepted in the CRS program and they will be helping us with syringes, meds and some medical bills!
and Kendra is….
….. OFFCIALLY CRAWLING!!!! and oh boy getting into everything. She can also roll over from back to front now(kind of late for this one, but it happened) and is pulling herself up holding onto my kitchen chairs. she loves to look into my covers and pulls stuff out. it’s so fun right now. i am so excited.
thank you for letting me share my good news. For a while i thought the good days were a dream. Thanks for the support!.
Leo

June 7, 2007 at 1:27 pm #35899AnonymousInactiveThanks so much for the update. I am so happy that you figured out what was bothering her. Maybe she just couldn’t handle the lactose or the aspertame. Try not to blame yourself. There’s no way you could have known and you were trying to help her when you raised her dose. You’re such a wonderful mommy and she’s so lucky to have you taking care of her.
Is she able to eat solids now? I hope so because I remember you said that she was liking them.
I’m so glad you found a pump so you can get some sleep at night, and that’s great that CRS is going to help you.
And that’s terrific news that she’s crawling, rolling over, and getting into things!!! Great job Kendra!!

June 7, 2007 at 10:43 pm #35958AnonymousInactiveYou’re welcome. I hope it’s something that can help Kendra. It’s sure been a blessing for Bryce, and such an easy way to add extra calories.
June 8, 2007 at 5:38 am #35961AnonymousInactiveWell done Kendra and Leo. Great to hear you have the meds sorted out. All our babies need individual treatment, so don’t worry yourself if you try something new and it doesn’t work. Yah for the crawling, it is soo exciting.
June 8, 2007 at 8:15 am #35969AnonymousInactiveGlad you were able to figure out what was wrong. We sometimes have the mindset with the meds that more is better and just like this it isn’t always the case. I just hate that you had to find out this way. I am so glad that she is feeling better. Wishing you many more happy and fun days ahead.
