I am so frustrated today. We are having such a bad day spitting wise. I am on my 3rd pair of pants and 2nd shirt for the day and Cooper is on his 3rd outfit. Normally he spits, but today he is vomiting you could say, large amounts, probably 1/2 to 1 oz each feeding which is so much more than he has done in the last several weeks. This last feeding was very calm which they haven’t been for the last few days. After he ate, we went to sit on our screened porch and look at the trees etc… about 15 minutes after he ate, he burped himself and up it came… he wasn’t doing anything other than sitting on my lap…. I am so frustrated. Trying to keep him still is such a challenge and I finally figured out that being outside keeps him still and then he goes and spits probably an ounce when he had been totally still practically for 15minutes… Just needed to vent. Does anyone have any other suggestions. We have been using his baby papasan but can only do that after a few feedings as he arches and tries to get out of it, so I have been holding him on my lap outside when we aren’t using the chair. Thanks.

June 1, 2007 at 3:08 pm #35275AnonymousInactiveSo sorry Beth. I hate those spitting days. I started wearing about the same three things all the time because I didn’t want to get spit up on all my other clothes.
We used a bouncy seat most of the time for Ben and watching his sister often kept him entertained. I know some moms use an exersaucer. Cooper is probably a bit young for it, but maybe if you roll up some towels and put them around him for stability??? Is he too big for a swing?
I will say though, that right about Cooper’s age, Ben’s spitting got worse.. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but our pediatrician said that even kids without reflux tend to spit up alot around 4 months because they start moving so much more.
Anyway, hang it there. It does get better.
June 1, 2007 at 4:47 pm #35289AnonymousInactiveMyles had lots of ups and downs in the amount of spitting and I remember his worst times were 4 months and 7 months. Hopefully this will pass soon. Hang in there!
June 1, 2007 at 7:13 pm #35298AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry! Landen used to be allll silent as far as refluxing goes and over the last few weeks has become quite the puker. Not so silent anymore. I am not sure if it is b/c he is increasing his intake in food or what. It’s quite puzzling. I refuse to thicken his feeds b/c he has such an immature digestive system. I change clothes frequently now . I also start work Monday. Should be intersting to see if he pukes on my “Business Casual” clothing.
Hang in there! I am right there with ya with the spray n wash bottle. This HAS to get better… *Hugs*
June 1, 2007 at 9:26 pm #35308AnonymousInactivei just wanted to add that we had the baby papasan too.. and i felt like it layed back too much!! he seemed to be uncomfortable in it..and needed to lay up more.. well that was atleast for sleeping.. so i assume it doesnt keep it down too well during the day either. what i did love was the baby papasan swing.. because i was able to sit it up really well!
June 1, 2007 at 10:08 pm #35314AnonymousInactiveHi Beth,
I’m so sorry for all you and little Cooper have been going through with all the spitting up. I definitely know how frustrating and tiresome all that spitting gets. Bryce has always been a huge puker until the last few months where it finally seems a little better. When he was little we used to put him in his infant car seat after he ate for 30 min. or so, or even lay him on my lap with my knees elevated. I sure hope all the spitting up starts to decrease soon!June 2, 2007 at 7:34 am #35340AnonymousInactiveHUGS HUGS HUGS! We all know where you’re coming from. I used to lay towels and blankets all over the floor, and gave up on my own appearance. Once I went to go pick up Sarah from the daycare covered with vomit stains, and a child approached me and asked me why my shirt looked so dirty!
I hope it passes soon! Hang in there.
June 2, 2007 at 8:23 am #35345AnonymousInactiveThanks for the heads up about the increase around 4 and 7 months old. Cooper is super active and keeping him still is definately a challenge. I have also noticed that his feedings that are right after his meds tend to be the worst. I am wondering if it is b/c the last dose has worn off and the next dose hasn’t kicked in yet. We just finished our first week of 7.5mg/2x/day so we have one more week before I start looking to increase him again. I do have to say that at least he is happy now when he spits… I am just sick of doing laundry. Thanks for all the hugs. My hubby worked a double shift yesterday and has to work 12 hrs today and tomorrow and of course will be gone Thursday-Sunday next week so I am getting my fill of being a single parent…. Just hope I have time to wash all my dirty laundry.
June 2, 2007 at 10:04 am #35361AnonymousInactiveUgg….It is so hard to do it yourself.
That’s great that he seems to not be bothered when he spits up. The Prevacid must be doing something!
June 2, 2007 at 3:05 pm #35390AnonymousInactiveI completely understand! I gave up on trying to find ways to get my girls to spit less. It seemed like things that worked one day wouldn’t work the next. So… we put towels and blankets all over our carpets and I had a stash of “stay in the house” t-shirts that I wore at home. I would only change into my nicer stuff if we were going out of the house (and sometimes I didn’t even bother – that’s how you knew that it was a bad day!) We have several really cute outfits that neither girl ever wore because they were “high maintenance” (lots of buttons, straps, etc.) and it wasn’t worth dressing them in it just to have to change them in an hour.
