It is official Alexis is going to have ear tube placement, adenoids and tonsils removed on Tuesday March 14th at 7:30 in the morning. I am so scared, nervous, sad you name it I am just so afraid. I know it is a common procedure, but it is so hard to have it done on your own little baby! She’s just so little, it scares the daylights out of me. She hardly eats now, I don’t know what is going to happen days, weeks after the surgery trying to keep her hydrated and norished! She only drinks water and milk and not very much. She hates juice, jello, and even ice cream. Now I keep on second guessing the decision to have these 3 procedures done since she actually doing so well right now, but I keep on telling myself it would be the best for her in the long run. I’m an emotional wreck, which is not helping with being pregnant with baby #2. I can’t eat, sleep, and just plain uncomfortable. Dh came home yesterday and notice that I have dropped which I never did with Alexis, I’m trying to keep this baby in as long as I can, so I can make sure Alexis is doing better, but there is so much I can do. The Ob/Gyn keeps on telling me not to pick her up as much as I do, but it is hard not too since I know what is in her future. I just want to hold her as close as I can and as tight as possible. Sorry for babbling, it’s got to be the combinations of stress and pregnancy hormones running through me, thanks for listening.
March 9, 2006 at 4:26 pm #3427AnonymousInactiveGood luck Sue – I hope the procedures go well and will be thinking of
you guys. Try to get some rest if possible and take care of yourself
and Baby #2 also. I definitely think Alexis will feel much better after
the recovery!March 9, 2006 at 4:30 pm #3428AnonymousInactiveSue,
I know how you feel as Brodie just had surgery for an undescended testicle and circumcision repair last Wednesday (March 1st.) I was an emotional wreck up to and during the surgery, it was about 1 hour and 45 minutes long. He did fine and came out of it well. I think it was harder on me and my husband than him. Of course he was in pain and I felt bad about having the circumcision repaired because that was causing more pain than anything else, but I know in the long run we did the right thing and he will probably not even remember. It is good that Alexis’ surgery is next Tuesday because it doesn’t give you too long to stress about it and it will still be a month (hopefully) before baby #2 comes along. You are doing the right thing and although it will be hard, it wil be worth it. Her eating may even improve once she heals! Try to get as much help as possible so you can rest and take of baby #2.
March 9, 2006 at 5:01 pm #3430AnonymousInactivesue, it is pretty normal to drop sooner with a second baby (or 3rd or 4th, etc.) also, expect that alexis IS going to lose weight after the surgery. this is normal and to be expected. it is so easy to worry about things when you have never experienced them before. take care and ask for comfort in your prayers.

Hang in there. I can tell you all of these made such a difference for the better! It is really hard especially because you are pregnant, etc. but you can do this. Think about what you went through in your worst reflux days with sleep depervation, etc, and you came through that with flying colors. This will only be a week or so of the worst and then progressively better all around!
It is always hard when they go through anything, but I would tell you that don’t hesitate to bring her back for fluids. It is a pain to go back but much better than getting behind.
You will do great and we will be here for support! I hope you see incredible changes with these procedures!

March 9, 2006 at 5:12 pm #3432AnonymousInactiveSue, good luck with the surgeries, of course, we’ll be thinking of you. Hope everything goes well, and will help out Alexis, and make her more comfortable. Please try to find some time to take care of yourself. I know it’s hard, but I wish I would have followed this advice when i was pregnant with hailey… I was also an emotional wreck. Good luck.
March 9, 2006 at 8:36 pm #3447AnonymousInactiveHang in there Sue – we’ll keep you and Alexis in our thoughts and
prayers. I’m sure everything will go fine. When Nate had
surgery (he was 3) I was more nervous than he was. He was a
trooper as I’m sure Alexis will be. And, don’t feel bad for
giving her lots of hugs and kisses now but please take care of
yourself. Your babies need a strong Mommy. Take care and keep us posted!!!March 10, 2006 at 2:55 am #3480AnonymousInactiveSue
YOu and Alexis will be in our prayers… i am sure that everything is gong to be fine and although it may be rough right after the surgery, i am sure that soon after you will start to notice the difference! Try to take care of yourself, eat and drink a lot of water!!!
March 10, 2006 at 10:13 am #3501AnonymousInactiveHi Sue,
Hang in there. The hormones of the second pregnancy I am sure are making everything even harder than it already is. Alexis will do just fine! And after the procedures she will be great. I am living proof. I had the exact same surgery about 20 years ago, I am sure the procedures are even better now! I used to get terrible ear infections in both ears, I was deaf due to fluid behind the ear drum and I was ALWAYS sick. I had this procedure done, and I never had another ear infection again. And my hearing never gives me any trouble. She will do great because she has a mom that loves her! Take care and good luck, I will be thinking of you!

March 10, 2006 at 3:09 pm #3542AnonymousInactiveShe had her Pre-op physical today and she did fine. The only concern is that she is running a low grade fever, but not signs of illness/infection. So we just have to keep a very close eye on her making sure her temp doesn’t continue to go up or we have to cancel the surgery (keeping my fingers crossed). She had her bloodwork drawn which thank goodness only took 1 try poor kid, cried and cried. Anyways, thanks for the support and I’ll keep everyone posted on what’s going on with my baby Alexis.
Well, 3/11/06 back to the Peds office with low grade temps and her throat is bright red! The rapid strep is negative and ears are cleared she did send a culture out but now we have to keep her temps down so she can have surgery that she needs so bad on Tuesday. We restarted her antibotics and she’s on tylenol to help prevent further infection until the day of the surgery. Please pray that she stays well enough for the much needed surgery!
