May 3, 2007 at 2:49 pm #32141AnonymousInactiveFINALLY…an article in a magazine that talks about OUR kiddos! I sobbed as I read it (and as I’m typing now). Check out the June/July/August 2007 issue of Wondertime page 110 or go to the website ( http://wondertime.go.com/learning/article/…w-colic-expert. html) for a longer version of the interview.
I’m going to email this link to all of my friends and relatives who still don’t really understand milk protein allergy (intolerance) or infant reflux. I’m going to print the article and share it with my current pediatrician and send it to my former ped and my former ped GI (amongst others) with a very nicely-written, friendly, respectful note asking them to read it so that they can better assist other families in the future.
I thought I had learned a lot about reflux so far, but the online interview really explained it in a way that I hadn’t heard of before. I would definitely encourage everyone to set aside some time to read the online article (it is a bit long, though).I LOVE the fact that the doctor interviewed describes colic as a “wastebasket diagnosis.” He says “There’s no real solution for what we call ‘colic’ because it’s a description, not a diagnosis – it’s just a term for inconsolable screaming. I’d even argue that it’s a wastebasket diagnosis, and some pediatricians still use it as a crutch when then can’t figure out what’s wrong with a baby.”
It is amazing what a feeling of peace I have right now (now that the tears are gone) after reading this article and online interview and knowing that I am not alone – and maybe someone else doesn’t have to go through the misery that we survived.
P.S. The doctor’s website is http://www.colicsolved.com and that is also the name of his book.May 3, 2007 at 2:52 pm #32142hellbenntKeymasterMay 3, 2007 at 2:59 pm #32143AnonymousInactiveThanks Laura. I just realized that the link didn’t work and was ready to edit my message and put the new link in. You beat me to it!

May 3, 2007 at 6:30 pm #32150AnonymousInactiveThanks so much for letting us know about this article! I’ve just e-mailed it to all of my family members, including my mother-in-law who always somehow seemed to find a way to blame me for my babies crying and screaming. I’m sure many of you have heard it too: his bottle isn’t warm enough, you hold him too much and are spoiling him, he should be wearing more clothes, you’re not burping him right, and on and on and on…
May 3, 2007 at 7:24 pm #32152AnonymousInactiveVery interesting. Thanks for posting. I wonder what his “dosages” are?
May 3, 2007 at 7:49 pm #32154AnonymousInactiveDianne, Thank you again for posting this very informative article . I’d recommend his book, I’ve read through most of it and found that it had a lot of good information (He should go on Oprah :)). I really like his info on especially effective strains of probiotics. Everyone on this board should read this article! Just FYI the article has 9 short pages.

May 4, 2007 at 11:28 am #32190AnonymousInactiveThank you sooooooo much! I haven’t read the whole article yet, but love what he says. He says what I have said all along. Colic is a term for we don’t know. I can’t stand the word colicy. It drives me nuts when i hear someone say my baby has reflux and is colicy. To me it is just plain reflux and it makes the baby feel like He**. Not that in any way it is the parents fault for using that term. I’m sure that is just what someone has told them. At any rate, I just can’t stand the word. For the parent and the baby the word takes away how bad it really is.
Thanks for sharing. I am going to also share it with others.
