I feel so bad…
My husband had heartburn yesterday so I gave him one of Adriana’s Pepcid Complete.
He had a bad reaction. He just like passed out, asleep. I woke him up because he was breathing weird. He got mad at me for waking him up (of course) and fell back asleep immedietly. He was like half way on the couch and was in the middle of painting the family room. He slept for like 20 hours and is still asleep!! He has gotten up a couple times and I have checked on him and talked to him to make sure he was okay.
Boy, how scary. I was ready to call 911. It must be the antacid because he always takes Zantac, but never takes anything like Mylanta or Tums.
April 26, 2007 at 10:54 am #31499AnonymousInactivewow, that is really scary. I just started giving the Pepcid Complete to Seth the other night. I’ll be sure to keep a close eye on him. Hope your husband is ok. Please keep us posted.
April 26, 2007 at 11:51 am #31503AnonymousInactiveHum, are you sure he didn’t sneak out of the house the night before?!! ha.
Does it say on the pkg that it can cause someone to be drowsy?
April 26, 2007 at 12:27 pm #31507AnonymousInactiveStrange… (and scary!)…
Glad to hear he’s okay! Did he take anything else or does he take any other meds regularly. Doing the pepcid complete near other meds can decrease the effectiveness of the other meds or cause potential interactions.
I’d have him go to the doc (I know, men don’t like to go to the doctor) but that sounds really bizzarre.
April 27, 2007 at 5:12 am #31580AnonymousInactiveWow, Glad to hear the hubby is okay. But how scary. i just started giving Q pepcid (i’m not sure if it’s “complete” though) But i’ve noticed a significant change in her sleeping habits… she actually DOES sleep. She sleeps 13-14 hours a day… which is a huge difference as apposed to her 9 hours a day. I wonder if it’s the same… i’m not complaining about her sleep, though… this is heaven for me and for her because she is finally growing. But i wonder if the drowsiness has something to do with the pepcid… hmmmm….

April 27, 2007 at 8:41 am #31585AnonymousInactiveJenny, I was thinking (worrying) about this last night since like I said I just started giving this to Seth and it is really helping him. A record 3 nights of decent sleep! Anyway, I remembered the Pepcid Complete clearing saying not to give with other acid reducers (I even asked about this in another post). If your Dh already takes Zantac maybe the two interacted or even caused an overdose? Just a thought.
April 27, 2007 at 2:40 pm #31615AnonymousInactiveWow… Quinn’s taking Pepcid AND Prevacid.
April 27, 2007 at 2:59 pm #31616AnonymousInactivemyQTpie, Seth is taking Prevacid too which is considered a PPI. An acid reducer would be in the H2 category. I asked his GI’s nurse about taking Prevacid and Pepcid and she said it was fine as long as they are not taken together (according to the MARCI kids website they should be spaced at least 4 hours apart). Glad The Pepcid is working for Quinn.
April 27, 2007 at 3:00 pm #31617AnonymousInactiveoh, and as far as not taking them together (Prevacid and Pepcid) not because of an interaction or overdose but because the Pepcid can neutralize the acid and the PPI (Prevacid) would not activiate and therefore be ineffective. Hope this helps…
April 27, 2007 at 5:43 pm #31623AnonymousInactiveNo he isn’t taking the zantac on a regular basis, so its probably not a reaction of the two. He is just fine now. I think he must be allergic to something in it. Maybe Pepcid can cause drowsiness. But for your kids it is probably that they can finally sleep without pain.
