Well my almost 3 month old son spits up alot! He sleeps almost threw the night. His docter told me to thiken feeding to help try to keep the formula down. That doent help keep it down at all. He does cry from 7pm till about 10pm,but other than that he only gets fussy after he eats if he dosent go right to sleep. Oh yeah and he has the hiccups alot. Doesthis soundlike he needsto be medicted or does he just sound like what they call a happy spitter?

I think the colic type crying 3 hrs before bed, fussiness after eating and hiccups can all be signs of intolerances. Are you breastfeeding or using formula? If formula, what type? What are you thickening with? Best of luck!

I’ve heard from other mothers on the board that improvements with changes in formula can take a couple weeks. If their infants can not tolerate formulas like Nutramigen, a switch to Neocate might be called for. I attached a link to our story and gathered info below, you might want to skim it.

Most of us here have found that Zantac doesn’t provide lasting relief to our reflux babies. Some of his symptoms definitely sound like reflux, especially the crying after feeds. Here’s a link to some recent research into PPI meds for infants. http://www.marci-kids.com
What are you using to thicken his formula? Sometimes rice cereal makes things worse because it can cause gassiness and consitpation. Also Gerber cereals have soy and many babies who have intolerances to dairy also are intolerant to soy. Beechnut is soy free.

April 11, 2007 at 3:41 am #30054AnonymousInactiveThank you all ,Ive been lurking on this site reading everything . You all have some great advice and I have really learned allot. I think my son is having a reaction to the nutramigen ,he has a rash on his cheeks and on his back. I have been using beach nut cereal in his bottle. He has been having nasty diarrhea also . My Doctor is of course no help. I’m the one who suggested to switching formulas ,because I have problems with dairy. I’m allergic to goats milk and I get bad stomach pains when I have to much cows milk. I thought maybe he might have the same problems. She doesn’t seem to concerned because he is gaining weight. Maybe I should have he give me a referral to a GI Doctor.

It’s a hypo formula but still dairy based. The RTF version of Alimentum has no corn, but the powder does contain corn, so I’d try the RTF. Or maybe just go to Neocate if you think his dairy intolerance is severe.
