We have seen the black bits following the bananas to.
It sounds like a good idea re the sample.
would your Dr agree to a change to neocate for a trial without testing?
April 1, 2007 at 9:35 pm #29247AnonymousInactiveI don’t know about about the Dr giving the okay w/o referring me to a GI first. I asked her to order me a sample of neocate with my older son ( I was a newbie at all this and jumped the gun before giving the nutramigan time ) and she did. I never did open it as he started improving fast and things were great.
But at Cooper’s 2 mo appt I told her how he still is so unsettled during sleep and seems uncomfy a bit after eating, and she mentioned that if things didn’t get better, she would want us to go get specialized help. But she also said some junk about small babies squirm in thier sleep all the time. Every “normal” baby I’ve seen at this age is like a bump on a log…
I don’t know, if I said well can we try neocate until the appt, she might…
This is the same dr who refused to up his meds though…
I will call tomorrow and leave them the diaper ( I am NOT doing it myself again!!! )
Sorry to ramble, I got used to that shirt stint of all night sleep!

April 3, 2007 at 3:50 pm #29428AnonymousInactiveSo I’m all set to bring in the wierd poo diaper , but it’s becoming dired out and the nurse said, the fresher the better ( ). So today he goes just a little bit so I thought great!
Not only are there no little black things in it ( which is a good thing! ) but it is TOTALLY a different color. Now, if we were on solids, sure, no suprise. But we have had weeks of the dark green loose stools, and this one is yellow and pasty, like regular formula poo. There wasn’t even a trace of the dark green. I haven’t changed a thing!
What is going on??? Is this something that has been hiding up there?? Or is his body just changing the way it digests stuff??
I am still taking the other diaper in, just to be sure.
I’ll be so glad when we are on solids so things like this I can just say “it must be something he ate”…

April 3, 2007 at 8:51 pm #29447AnonymousInactiveThat happened to us a few times when my dd was already on the neocate, but not on solids yet, out of nowhere we’d get a poop that looked like normal formula poop, like you described! My specialist didn’t seem phased by that, though. My dd only had yucky diapers on the reglular Gentlease. She never had yucky diapies on the Nutramigen, but my gi had us switch her to the neocate anyway because her spit up was mucusy.
April 3, 2007 at 9:04 pm #29451AnonymousInactiveHmmm, that is so wierd. I just realized how sad it is that “normal” poop is getting me all concerned…
I haven’t heard back from the Dr yet.
Just a thought, these little specks were about the same size as the prevacid granules, but kinda flat. Does the medicine leave the body? After seeing that normal poo, I feel silly for thinking it may have been blood, but better safe than sorry!

April 3, 2007 at 9:23 pm #29460AnonymousInactiveI’ve heard of purple flecks in baby’s spit up due to prevacid, but I haven’t read anything here yet about it making it to the diaper. That’s an interesting thought. Maybe you can email Dr. Phillips and ask him if it’s possible.
April 4, 2007 at 3:18 pm #29522AnonymousInactiveI emailed Dr. Phillips, and he said he thought it was probably the prevacid granules, and to send him the stool, frozen.
The thing is I sent the freshest one to my dr, and the only other diaper that had it in them, have been picked up by the trash service…
To add a new twist- the poo is still yellow, but now mucousy…
Uggg!

April 4, 2007 at 8:14 pm #29548AnonymousInactiveThat Dr. Phillips is really something. He wants you to send him a frozen, poopy diaper!? I guess your doc would think you were totally nuts if you asked her for some of the poop back. So, I guess Dr. Phillips is out of luck.
I’m sorry that he’s got mucuous in his stools now. I wish I had some advice but I just don’t know what that could be.
April 4, 2007 at 8:58 pm #29554AnonymousInactiveYeah, I was kinda suprised he was that willing to help investigate! But I am thankful there are Drs out there that don’t think all mom over-react.
He said to send him the stool if I see it again…
As far as the mucous goes, I have no clue. If it continues or worsens then I will bring him to the Dr and say NOW WHAT???
Hopefully it’s just some isolated thing that will resolve itself ( fingers crossed ).

April 4, 2007 at 9:13 pm #29557AnonymousInactiveYes, fingers crossed.
April 5, 2007 at 2:50 pm #29632AnonymousInactiveYOu know I read somewhere that it is actually normal to have some mucous in stools…I can’t remember the whole thing about it, but I guess with babies what you are looking for is A LOT of mucous over several days….again, I am not MD, so I would take it to the Dr. to have him look at it…but maybe it is just nothing really????
April 5, 2007 at 5:34 pm #29659AnonymousInactiveI agree that probably some now and then is normal, but seeing how much and often he was having mucousy stools before makes me nervous we are over our “honeymoon” phase with the alimentum…
I am just going to keep an eye on it. They were pretty gooey today, so if it continues over the weekend, then I’ll go from there.
Still haven’t heard back about the black stuff- I’m guessing if it was blood they would have called by now…
Tina
April 5, 2007 at 7:05 pm #29667AnonymousInactiveBlood test came back negative. I feel silly for having them check, but I guess it’s better to be sure…
Thanks for all the input ladies!

April 5, 2007 at 7:46 pm #29669AnonymousInactiveWe need a book of poo pictures!! In Japan they have one, I haven’t been able to find one here. I know we’ve taken pictures of Reidun’s stools that have blood in them. Perhaps I should post them?
April 5, 2007 at 8:17 pm #29674AnonymousInactiveOMG, that is too funny, and sadly I’d be all for it!
Maybe PM each other the pics, so we don’t offend anyone that doesn’t want to see???
