I just wanted to share that Dagney is finally getting herself to sleep on her own!!! I am sooooo relieved, the first night more tough on me than on her I think, but it really wasn’t so bad in the whole big picture, and now 2 days later, she just cries a couple of minutes at nap time, and really only let out 1 screach at bedtime last night, rolls around, cuddles her blankie, and goes to sleep!!! I am so relieved, now I can go back to work next week knowing that she should get at least a decent nap or 2 at my MIL’s!!
March 21, 2007 at 4:22 pm #28105AnonymousInactiveThat’s SO great! After almost 2 years of no sleep I’m ready to make my move too. Any suggestions? What did you do?

My Pedi has said that just from watching her get the immunizations & calm down fairly quickly that she’s a very “adaptable” baby, and that it shouldn’t be too hard on us when we did decide to do it. She was also already kind of doing it herself sometimes. I used to rock her completely asleep, then put her in her crib, sometimes she’d jump awake and I’d have to start all over. That went on for the longest time, but I think getting her on the right formula/prevacid mix really helped things too. Then a few weeks ago I noticed that after I’d rock her to sleep & put her in the crib, and a few times she’d actually wake up briefly, look at me, roll over & cuddle her blankie & go to sleep. That gave me the idea that she was really ready now, so then Monday night I just decided that was it (I’m going back to work next week & HAD to do it if I want her to take naps at my MIL’s). So I rocked her almost to sleep, put her in there awake, gave her a kiss, told her i loved her & good night & left the room. She looked at me like I was crazy, and started to cry within a minute or 2 of me leaving, so I went in after 10 minutes, patted her tummy, told her i loved her again & good night, and left again–she really started to scream (and I started to cry), so I was planning to go in after another 15 minutes, but around 12 or 13, she settled down, cuddled her blankie & went to sleep! I was SHOCKED and SO RELIEVED!! Tuesday was much easier for naps, and she just let out a little screach when I left, and again the same tonight and went to sleep! She even went to sleep at my MIL’s today for naps!! I KNOW we got lucky with this baby’s sleep habits, I’m sure our next child will have other plans!!

Goodluck with your first day back at work. The night before I went back I had a “mini breakdown” but it wasn’t nearly so bad as I thought it was going to be.
