Hello…
To those of you that recommended Nestle’s GoodStart formula..is it the GoodStart Supreme with Iron and easy to digest comfort proteins and without DHA/ARA? Just curious! Also, since this product contains 100% whey protein is this contraindicted for babies that may have a soy allergy? Thanks!
March 21, 2007 at 9:42 am #28042AnonymousInactiveYes, that’s the one. Lots of moms here report the one with dha/ara gave their babies some kind of gi distress. (Myles did fine on it though).
I think it would be fine for babies with a soy allergy. Unless there’s something I don’t know about whey protein.
March 21, 2007 at 9:52 am #28047AnonymousInactiveI am one of the GoodStart success stories! After trying 6 types of formula, it is the only one that works for my daughter. I got the one without the DHA/ARA, as I was sick of experimenting with her, and I have heard that some babies react badly to these chemicals. So, I would try it without the dha, then see what happens. If your baby does great, then maybe you can introduce the version with the chemicals at a later time if you want-
Good luck!
March 21, 2007 at 10:36 am #28053AnonymousInactiveWhey protein is derived from milk. It doesn’t contain soy. I hope it works for your daughter!
March 21, 2007 at 10:42 am #28054AnonymousInactivei think there might be some kind of soy in the formula.. like in one of the oils that are listed.
March 21, 2007 at 12:22 pm #28067AnonymousInactiveIf you think that she might be intolerant to dairy, then I’d personally try one of the hypo formulas- then you’re covered for dairy and soy I believe. We did goodstart without DHA and ARA only b/c I’d read about the gas issue, but DHA and ARA are in BM anyway, so it’s generally a good thing. We tried the hypos first, but she wouldn’t go near them. If you plan to potentially switch to one of these, I’d try sooner rather than later. After doing breast milk, she was reluctant to do goodstart, and then she found the other hypo ones to taste so nasty that she wouldn’t go near them.
March 21, 2007 at 12:35 pm #28073AnonymousInactiveWe also have had great results with Goodstart without DHA/ARA. We started with DHA/ARA and Colt had terrible stomach aches with it.
March 21, 2007 at 9:27 pm #28126AnonymousInactiveI still wonder if many of Dagney’s issues were from the DHA/ARA additive in the formulas. She continued to have diarhea and vomitting until we used the Neocate w/out DHA ARA, and she almost immediately stopped spitting up & w/ the diarhea! I don’t doubt she needed the hypoallergenic formula, but I’m not sure she even needed the Neocate, if they made Nutramigen w/out it, I would try it in an instant!
Good luck with the Good Start!!
March 26, 2007 at 1:50 pm #28523AnonymousInactiveThanks for your thoughts! I am waiting until we get the biopsy results back from the endo Corinne had on Friday to see if she does indeed have an intolerance to dairy and/or soy. If it doesn’t show any allergies then I will surely be switching to the Goodstart! Thanks again!
March 26, 2007 at 1:53 pm #28525AnonymousInactivea biopsy will not show MSPI. MSPI is diagnosed by symptoms. though it can be just as serious as an actual allergy.
March 26, 2007 at 2:29 pm #28530AnonymousInactivei was told that the biospy will definitely show if corinne has an allergy to milk/soy, etc. interesting!
March 26, 2007 at 2:34 pm #28531hellbenntKeymasterthe biopsy(ies) will show if there is a presence of EOS cells. If these cells are present, then there is an allergy/allergic reaction going on. I do not believe they then test for specific allergies, as allergy testing in babies/toddlers is very unreliable…
if there are no eos cells, then you could be looking at an intolerance
to read the difference b/t allergy & intolerance, go to the ‘main’ mspi link & go to page 2 & scroll down to ‘google cache’- this gives the best explanation b/t allergies and intolerances
