Trace has been walking for about a month now (crazy!!!) and now that its getting warmer outside i see good reason to get him shoes. i bought him some shoes at target for like $12….which was my moms idea. my MIL is insisting to buy him some good striderites (about $30) and i have also read in parenting mags that when baby first starts walking they need good shoes…what are your guys’ opinions? my mom keeps telling me im an idiot for wanting striderites…but she is always putting me down so i dont really trust her opinion…
March 18, 2007 at 12:22 pm #27742hellbenntKeymasterwe did striderites…jc penny also carries them &, if you get sized/fitted at the store, then you can look online for sales/deals…

March 18, 2007 at 1:23 pm #27745AnonymousInactiveRobeez and Bobux are both supposed to be really good shoes for new walkers. The Robeez are sold at The Right Start, Stride Right, and Nordstroms, and are usually around $25-$28, but I’ve been keeping my eye on some on ebay too, you can usually find new ones there too, although normally they wind up costing about the same in the end once shipping is included. It looks like Target sells a lower-priced version, made by Bobux, called Ministar, which I may pick up for Easter, since Dagney’s not even close to walking yet!
Here are some links:

March 18, 2007 at 2:59 pm #27755AnonymousInactiveWhen Hailey was only walking indoors by holding onto furniture etc, and not really proficient to walk around outdoors, we did Robeez (which are basically like bobux).
Once she starting walking outdoors we did real shoes. I’m actually a really big fan of two of the payless brands (If you have payless in the US). One for small kids up to size 5 is called “teeney toes” and then for sizes 4-10, I like the “smart fit” brand. I read about both these brands and they are well designed and follow the important principles for a good fitting shoe (good wide toe box, sufficient arch support, some flexibility in the sole, and good heel support). I once read that they may even be made by the same people who make stride rites, but that has never been substatiated as far as I can tell.
I’m just too cheap to get stride rites. My sister buys them religiously. Our ped actually tells people when their kids start walking not to waste their money on brand name shoes, to go to walmart and get a well fitting pair.
March 18, 2007 at 3:25 pm #27762AnonymousInactiveNatalia- Do you have a Marshall’s by you? I have always found stride rites at marshall’s for under $19.99.
I ‘m a believer in good shoes, because I had problems with my feet as a child. I think it’s important to have your child’s feet measured properly. When I took evan in, I was told that he is a 4 extra wide. Had I not had him measured, I would have been cramming his feet into regular 4’s.
I believe that Lori is right about the teeny toes too. They are a stride rite brand and I have friends that have been happy with them.
March 18, 2007 at 3:55 pm #27768hellbenntKeymastertarget’s kidSmart seems to be from Stride rite (I’ve been googling) but I haven’t seen anything about the payless ones?
also getting rave reviews: http://preschoolians.com/landing_boys.asp

March 18, 2007 at 9:03 pm #27779AnonymousInactiveI have always bought Smart Fits by Payless Shoes for the same reasons Lori mentioned.
March 19, 2007 at 9:14 am #27806AnonymousInactiveWe did get Stride Rites for Seth’s first shoes mainly because they do measure their feet and we wanted to make sure they fit properly since he was just starting to walk. Like some others said, I am glad we did because he needed a wide too. If you don’t want to invest in the shoes, you can always just go by and get measured and tell them you are going to think about it. I think the fit is the most important thing.
I’ve also heard that about the Payless shoes. Don’t know if it is true but I have bought him shoes from there. They have lots of styles and they seem really comfy and well made.
