Do you guys ever read the intoduce yourself forum and get so aggrivated? It is so sad to read the posts there. It seems like everyone is saying the same thing. My Dr. says the books say the dose should be, the dr says zantac, the dr says ppi’s are not fda approved, or my dr says they will outgrow it. UGH! It is so hard to not just say what I feel. I don’t want to scare them though. It is so hard because they have been taught to believe everything there dr says to be gold. So, they have to wait it out until they realize there dr is not going to help them. These dr just don’t get it. They have no clue how hard it is or what they are doing to the familes that they are supposed to be helping. I just needed to vent.

I think my doctor said it best when I said to him that I would like to try him on a different formula and the doctor said “he is your son you can try him on any formula you want”. That is the same doctor we are with today and he still handles things like that. I feel bad when I see 5mgs for the prilosec dosage. Do doctors really think that 5mgs is going to do anything?

Not only do I get mad, but I can’t tear myself away from this site because I know there are going to be new moms and new babies that are getting no help and no support. It’s horrible. I’m just waiting for the day that these meds are OTC and any mom can go and buy the stuff and try it if they think their baby has reflux. I think that will happen (ppi’s will become OTC) long before the medical community begins to acknowledge and treat infant reflux as the serious and miserable medical condition it is.

and the doctors who tell moms to stop breastfeeding, don’t get me started!!!

It is probably really hard for Drs to be up to date with all research etc- there is so much new stuff everyday (I can relate as it is the same in my area of work). But if a patient/client comes and says marci-kids bla bla…..then the Dr should be open to hearing about it, read about it and follow it up (you should read some of the voodoo stuff some of my clients have brought me). Or if a patients says, this is not working…they shouldn’t be dismissive and instead help search for answers. If they don’t know they should say so….
I had a number of miscarriages before Alana and every Dr said the same thing, its just unlucky, nothing you can do, no evidence that such and such works…well I finally saw a specialist who said “there is no evidence for x, y or z…but if you find any research I will be more than happy to read it and talk to you about it”. Know thats the kind of Dr I want…someone who is going to listen and respect me.

Oh Laura, I know what you mean about Dr. telling moms they can’t bf. I can’t believe they even do it, but it happens all the time. It happened to me. Thankfully I have a wonderful friend that has taught me so much about bf. Most of the time by time a mom gets here, her milk is already gone or baby would have a tough time going back. Not that i’m saying everyone has to bf, but there are moms that really want to and are told they can’t.
