I know there are a variety of reasons for this to happen, but I can’t figure out what’s going on now. I do have OALD, but his poo before about the last week or so have always been yellow to orange colored. It is very loose, more so than I would think normal for a breastfed baby, but I just chalked that up to the meds. However, they started turning green a little over a week ago… slowly, just slightly greenish and now more so. It also seems to really bother his bum. He gets an awful rash if I can’t change him right away.
He is currently struggling with RSV, so I’m wondering if all the mucous and snot his is swallowing is causing it???
He’s also not eating as well.. not staying on each breast for as long, so maybe he’s not getting the hindmilk??? Problem with that is that the poo starting turning green before his RSV symptoms appeared.
The only recent food I’ve added to my diet has been apples. Could that be it???
Any thoughts???
February 3, 2007 at 8:16 pm #24020hellbenntKeymasterhmmm. cut out the apples and see what happens? it shouldn’t take that long to clear out, I wouldn’t think- not like milk or soy- so try maybe 3 or 4 days w/o apples and see what happens…there’s a baby on this board who is actually allergic to apples, who woulda thunk?? if after 3 or 4 days things are the same, try something else? it’s hard to think of another fruit offhand…(bananas are related to latex…what’s left? papaya? cantelope? hmm?)

4 weeks and has green poo all the time. My pediatrician says that it’s
normal and poo colors tend to range from yellow to green for most babies
regardless of breast or bottle fed. Hope this helps-I doubt it’s the apples
due to our situation-no apples, green poo! Good luck!

Is Ben on any antibiotics? Oh wait you said it started before the RSV. Hmm maybe just a tummy issue caused by virus that then lowered him immunity’s to other virus’s such as RSV? Just some thoughts and rambles.
Good Luck and BTW I’ve heard RSV can last for a week to 12 days at the worst part but then can continue with lesser symptoms. Hope he’s feeling well soon.
February 4, 2007 at 11:13 am #24056AnonymousInactivea week to twelve days!!!!! ahhhh… the nurse told me it would be about 6 days… I figured she must be wrong when he was still so bad yesterday (day 6).
I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. It is awful.
February 4, 2007 at 2:42 pm #24068AnonymousInactiveDid they put Ben on anything to help him breathe? Any antibiotics? Kayleigh never had RSV but she’s had pneumonia 3 times and she has to do nebulizer treatments, gets a cough syrup and antibiotics. Have you tried sitting in a warm, steamy bathtub together? This might help him get some of the mucous out long enough to eat. Just some thoughts. I hope Ben is on the mend soon.

Like Laura said, I think that they clear your system much more quickly than milk does. I really can’t answer the poo question because hers were always green when she was younger.

February 5, 2007 at 8:05 pm #24157AnonymousInactiveHer apple issue is so minor compared to the wheat and milk that it’s easy to forget.
February 6, 2007 at 11:02 am #24197AnonymousInactiveNo, no breathing treatments. The doc. debated ,but since she didn’t hear any wheezing, she said a vaporizer in his room would be ok. I think we are on our way out of it now. At least, Claire’s fever has broke , so she is much easier to handle now, and that really helps. Ben’s cough is still bad, but it’s not as often as it used to be. His appetite is still bad though.
