I am SO pissed off right now, Aidan got booted off of medicaid..APARENTLY our pathetic income is above whatever stupid standard they set…whatever..anyway, AUSTIN still gets it b/c mu husband is his step father and I don’t have any contact with his biological father….so I just put in an application with the states low income insurance program, which is aparently running out of money ( WONDERFUL). If he gets denied for that we’re so screwed..we can’t afford insurance….I just hope he doesn’t get sick between now and when (if) he is approved for peachcare. He’s teething liek a bear and the reflux is back, but not horribly, he’s off meds, and I won’t put him back on-I have zantac and mylanta to use at night. The good news is he’s WAY WAY above where he’s ” suposed” to be mentally and physically (well in most areas)…he eats almost everything I give him, and is for the most part, a happy kid-so I’m grateful for that…..but I really don’t know what we’ll do if he gets sick and needs to go to the dr……
January 24, 2007 at 2:12 am #22991AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry to hear about losing your medicaid. I know how frustrating it is to be in that “in-between” place when you make too much to qualify for medicaid, but not enough to pay for regular insurance. Good luck with the peachcare. I sure hope you can qualify for it or find another solution.
January 24, 2007 at 9:22 am #23001AnonymousInactiveI just applied for medicaid for Isaac 2 days ago b/c my dh is switching jobs and we will be w/out insurance for 90 days. I know exactly how worried you are but it will all come together so try not to stress too much. I always remind myself that if he gets sick enough then I will take him to the hospital that has a high income level for financial aid I will be praying that you will get the peachcare thing
edited post b/c i realized i wrote peachtree instead of peachcaresorry!

January 24, 2007 at 9:48 am #23007AnonymousInactiveIs is possible for DH to look for another job that offers insurance? I don’t know your situation, so I will apologize up front if that is too forward, but my DH and I were in a similar situation for a time before having children and right when Dylan was born. By switching, he took less money for a while and the insurance was fantastic so it made up for the few dollars less he was making……
Just a thought… I am sorry for this situation as I know how quickly these babies throw us for a loop and the medical bills can get out of control quickly……
Also, there was a brief period during college that I had no insurance and no money. I would tell the doctors when I went to see them that I didn’t have insurance, and many only asked me for $20 for the visit, and no more…. Most times, Doctors are willing to work with you so don’t be afraid to tell them you don’t have insurance..
Hang in there, and I hope things turn around for you guys soon!!!!

January 24, 2007 at 12:15 pm #23018AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry to hear the bad news. I hope Peachcare accepts him. How long will it be before you know?
January 24, 2007 at 1:16 pm #23028AnonymousInactiveWell, my husband COULD find a different job with benefits if he weren’t being a complete moron about it!!!!!!! The only person who has insurance is Austin (older son) and my husband is just being lazy and ridiculous about this whole thing…I’m not really sure how long it takes to hear back from peachcare. My parents help us out a LOT, but I really hate to ask them to help out financially with the kids (unless it comes to clothes, my mom buys TONS of them for all the grandkids wether or not we need them-lol). Really, Austin’s activities take up a lot of $$ (well a lot considering he’s 7) but I hate to tell him he can’t do things like play baseball or join chess club b/c I think it’s really important for him to be in those kinds of activities (as long as he wants to of course)heck even Cub scouts isn’t cheap, but I know from personal experience that bored children get into a lot of trouble when they’re older if they don’t find an activity they like! Anyway, I’m really hoping that my husband gets off his butt and really puts forth an effort to find a better job. His boss didn’t even give them any kind of Christmas bonus. Ty guys for all the support!
Good luck with the medicaid application Sarah, it really IS a good program although sometimes the actual people you have to deal with can be a bit of a pain (seriously, lol I had to wait in line for 15 mins to get an ENVELOPE b/c the lady at the counter wouldn’t just slip one through the window), but it’s worth it!
January 24, 2007 at 1:32 pm #23029AnonymousInactiveJill,
I know what you mean about activities for the kids. I’m flat broke but I go without a lot of things so they can go to pre-school, ballet, and Kindermusik. Some of my friends think I’m irrational about it, but I feel that children should be allowed to explore their interests and talents, and unfortunately that costs money. Liza loves dance and there’s no way I could ever teach her to dance. And if any of them show an interest in music or art, they’re not going to learn that from me either, so what do we do? My parents never let us explore any of our intrests and to this day that still hurts me , so I just can’t do that to my kids. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I agree with you. Too bad it has to cost so much.
Why doens’t dh want to get another job? He loves his job, or he’s afraid of change? My dh would never look for another job either. He hates change. Fortunately he has it pretty good where he is but I want to move in the future so the kids can go to better schools, but he says NO WAY because he’d rather die than change jobs.
Anyway, good luck with everything and let us know if you get Aidan on peachtree. I hope so.
January 27, 2007 at 9:46 am #23237AnonymousInactiveLOL my husband is always saying how much he hates his boss, but likes what he does..yet he STILL stays with them…he keeps yelling at me to get a job-which he darn well knows I won’t (at least not full time) until Aidan is in elementary school. Oh well, I’m still waiting to hear bcak fro mthe peachcare people..they sure are taking their time!!!!!!!
January 27, 2007 at 1:20 pm #23266AnonymousInactiveI just don’t get this world….how could anyone reject a child…I mean come on! I will be praying for you to hear good news from peachcare.
January 29, 2007 at 10:04 pm #23519AnonymousInactiveok so it takes 2-4 weeks for he peachcare people to even process the application!!! And, how ironic, he IS sick!! but luckily The medicaid doesn’t end until the end of this month so I can take him to he dr tomorrow, also a bonus, I filed our taxes online and am having them direct deposit the sheck directly in our account (should take about 2 weeks), I’ll be a lot more comfortable when I know we have to money to pay for any dr’s visits we have for Aidan.
January 30, 2007 at 9:25 am #23548AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry, Jill. I hope that things work out soon. HUGS.
January 30, 2007 at 11:14 am #23557AnonymousInactiveI hate waiting to hear if Isaac was rejected or not! I hope you hear some good news soon. If they do reject you you may want to call you local EI and they can give you info on less publicly known options
