I’m probably driving everyone crazy here, but I am so sad and discouraged right now! I know it hasn’t been 2 weeks yet, but my son’s crying and apparent discomfort seem worse. We upped his dosage of Prevacid to 30mg about 4 days ago, and I can understand not seeing improvement for 2 weeks, but for things to be worse?!? I hate seeing him like this, and we’re so sleep-deprived. Before he was sleeping anywhere from 4-8 hours at night. Now he’s waking every 2 hours or more. Have any of you experienced this? I just would love to hear from someone who had this happen and it got better. Thanks for listening.
January 19, 2007 at 11:32 am #22678AnonymousInactiveIs he using anything besides the prevacid? Your dr may give you the ok to give mylanta and that helps out alot during the 2 week wait. The way it was explained to me is that during those 2 weeks they have to build up the prevacid in their body for it to work and that until enough is built up it will seem like uncontrolled reflux. I know it is hard but just hang in there b/c it will get better. Big Hugs!

January 19, 2007 at 5:37 pm #22708AnonymousInactiveHey, you can never drive anyone crazy here we are all there already.
Ditto the mylanta.
Also, maybe give the full dose the two weeks (I know it is very very hard) if still no improvement then maybe the Dr could prescribe a form of Prilosec? I know Alana did badly from a side effects POV from losec but after an inital few “stomachy” days on prevacid took of. Just an option to look at in the future.
Come and “drive us crazy LOL” anytime.
January 19, 2007 at 6:01 pm #22713AnonymousInactiveSince I haven’t talked with my doctor yet, how do I know how much Mylanta to give him? If I want to start tonight, I’ll go out and buy some, but does it have the infant dosage on it? If not, does anyone know how much to give a 13 pound infant (3 months old)?
Thanks
January 19, 2007 at 6:03 pm #22714AnonymousInactiveDoes zegerid have the same stomach side effects as Prevacid? Does anyone know? If not, I’d just as soon go ahead and switch to that instead of watching him suffer like this. Anyone using zegerid, did your child have the stomach issues some of us have had with Prevacid? Do you find that it works well?
January 19, 2007 at 6:04 pm #22715AnonymousInactiveOr Evergreenie, what about zoton? Do you like that one? Did you say that Prevacid caused stomach problems for your daughter too? I’ve never heard of zoton.
January 19, 2007 at 11:08 pm #22723AnonymousInactiveEmily- Zoton is the brand name for prevacid in Aus. Alana had trouble with losec/prilosec in US.
I have read some mums saying stomach troubles settled for their little ones over a few days.
I was giving Alana about a ml of mylanta at that age (it can cause runny stools in some with large doses). Before or after her feed. I probaly never gave more than 3 ml in a day. Try doing a search for mylanta in the forums- there have been some recent posts about this.
I’ve never used Zeregid (we don’t have it in Aus) but I would give it a try if I could- at least you know it is compunded correctly and you don’t have to time it.
January 22, 2007 at 11:13 am #22876AnonymousInactivemy pedi gi said for regular strength mylanta you can give 4 ml 3x/day, but if giving 4x/day, only give 3.5ml/dose. my daughter was about 13 pounds at the time. i think some here use cherry mylanya supreme, and i think that dose would be cut in half since its stronger, am i right?
January 22, 2007 at 1:20 pm #22886AnonymousInactiveYes most of us use Mylanta Cherry Supreme. My bottle doesn’t say extra strenth, but I never gave more than 2.5 mls at a time.
January 22, 2007 at 2:05 pm #22893AnonymousInactiveThanks for the Mylanta infant dosage help. My husband bought the regular Mylanta cherry (not supreme), so I’m going to try that first. Just to prepare myself, do the babies hate the taste of it? Caden doesn’t like the strawberry flavored Prevacid, so I’m wondering if he will hate this stuff and try to spit it out. Plus, I gave him Maalox one time (at a neighbor’s suggestion – her son had reflux too), and Caden hated the taste so much he gagged and cried like he’d been tortured.
