sylvia has had an endoscopy and a ph probe done. she didn’t even seem to notice her probe and i highly doubt that she remembers the endoscopy. our ped gi let me stay in and watch when one of my twins had their endo—–i thouhgt it was pretty interesting to see. i had a scope myself a few months ago and it was no big deal—-i was out driving later that afternoon.
January 19, 2007 at 12:31 am #22630AnonymousInactiveYou guys are the BEST!!! I’m feeling a bit ok now, I was an emotional wreck earlier. I was talking to my sister on the phone, this my best friend and the only sister I have, you know what she said?? She said “well you worry too much about Jay, I don’t believe in reflux stuff, you are putting him through so much for no reason, maybe he just doesn’t like the taste of your milk, just give him formula”. I can not believe she said that. I guess she was tired of me talking about Jay all the time????? I just did’t want to hear anymore and told her I had to go and cried after hanging up the phone. Then my mom called after a few hrs. She said “Jay is just fine, don’t do any procedures, he will eat when he wants to eat, he is too distracted thats what it is”.
I’m so glad I found you guys, otherwise I don’t know who to go to now since my own family is not with me on this, except for my husband, he worries even more when it comes about our kids. He is not as strong as I am.
January 19, 2007 at 5:33 am #22633AnonymousInactiveYou poor thing. That must have been awful for you and you must have felt so unsupported. People just do not realise what reflux is like and how miserable it can make the little ones (and how it can worry their mums). Always remember, you are his mum, you would never do anything that you didn’t feel was in his best interest. MUM ALWAYS KNOWS BEST. Trust your instincts.
January 19, 2007 at 8:20 am #22641AnonymousInactiveHve you ever had reflux? I did – over Christmas, right before Matthew got his feeding tube. I WAS MISERABLE – i did not eat for more than 5 days and i was on medication those 5 days… so i can tell that it exists, def!!
January 19, 2007 at 10:02 am #22658AnonymousInactiveHow sad and disappointing to not have the support of your best friend and sister in this. I really feel for you and I understand what it’s like. My dh was so unsupportive, told me it was my fault my refluxers wouldn’t eat, etc. and my family all live 100’s of miles away, so I was really alone with it all. It’s so hard. Thankfullly you have your dh’s support. Just remember your sister is misinformed, but she probably doesn’t have bad intentions.
January 19, 2007 at 11:06 am #22673AnonymousInactivecould you get your sister to go with you to your next appt. with the ped gi? maybe she might learn something.
January 20, 2007 at 10:51 pm #22787AnonymousInactiveChristine, that is a really good idea to take my sister to the dr’s visit. I will ask her to go with me next time.
The hospital hasn’t called to set the schedule for endoscopy. I’m just so frustrated with him not eating. Can’t wait to find out what’s going on with my Jay so we can head to the right direction. I’m so afraid my supply is going to decrease. I was keeping up with my supply with the help of my 3yo. I weaned her a couple of wks ago when Jay did really well with Prevacid the first 2 wks. Now he has not been nursing well for over 2 wks . And the past two days he would nurse only 2 to 3 times a day and only for 2 min at a time. My breasts are so sore, I’m tired of expressing and still can’t empty them .
January 20, 2007 at 10:58 pm #22788AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry . Have you tried an electric pump? It’s easier to get more volume out and it might help you keep up your supply. I rent mine (hospital grade) for free from WIC. Just an idea.
I’m sorry the hospital still hasn’t called. The waiting must be so frustrating. Hope you can get some answers soon.
January 20, 2007 at 11:58 pm #22792AnonymousInactiveI do have an electric pump, but I’m really good at hand expressing.
Do you guys know if the endosopy results will be given right after the procedure? I know biopsies take a few days.
January 21, 2007 at 2:58 pm #22819AnonymousInactiveSuzie, I feel for you. My mother in law and sister in law have said the same thing and worse (if you can believe that) through this entire process. They have never supported us when we needed help with Hailey, and my mother in law (who is actually pretty nice- at least to my face) said that Hailey has a feeding aversion because I’m a bad cook, because I didn’t make good homemade baby foods like her other daughter in law and her daughter did, because I didn’t breastfeed long enough, because I’m too forceful… the list goes on and on. I’ve been harassed by them so much about this, that I have just given up. I think the problem with GERD is that it’s the abnormal in a continuum of normal. I mean that all babies have SOME spitting up, a bit of reflux, but not full blown GER/GERD. That’s why people always think they know about it, and think that it’s nothing, unless they’ve experienced it themselves… and really even then, sometimes they don’t get it if their child has had a really mild or easily managed case.
All I can say, is hang in there. Surround yourself with people who understand and try to ignore useless comments.
As for the endoscopy, we got the initial results right after (i.e. the GI came out and told us what things looked like, if there was any visible damage etc.) and then it took two weeks to get the results from the biopsies. I know that the US is much faster with the biopsies- I’ve heard of people getting them within a few days.
HUGS.
