Jay has been running a fever between 100-100.5 . I called this morning to see what I should do. Since he has been running this low grade fever for a week they wanted me to bring him in. The dr checked him out, of course teething, nothing else was going on. She wanted to do a blood work on him. It was so painful to watch that. She is doing CBC, EBV, Sedimentation Rate, TSH, Celiac Panel, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel. Also a chest x-ray. I’m so freaked out about these tests What could be going on with my Jay????? First of all he was not eating well for 5 months, finally the dr listened to me and suspected Silent Reflux and put him on Prevacid (It’s working, but still no solids). Now he has been running this fever for a while with no other symptoms. The dr scared me saying if the blood tests come back negative and if he still has the fever, I’m going to have to take him to the immunologist (sp?)

January 9, 2007 at 2:23 am #21993AnonymousInactiveDid they take urine. Alana had a fever on and off for over a week and that was what it was. Apparently that is a common presentation in the little ones?
January 9, 2007 at 4:27 pm #22043AnonymousInactiveHailey had fever for over a week and nothing came of it- and hers was quite high- over 102 for most of the time. Sarah, my 3 year old, had fever for almost a month straight (low grade for the most part with some spikes). We were put on house arrest and I couldn’t take her out. This was when she was 16 months old. In the end everything came back clear, and it was just that her system was unable to cope with the constant winter viruses, I guess. She still has a resting temp over 99 most of the time and nothing has ever come of it.
Try not to worry about the tests. We’ve had them done as well. I hope that everything comes back clear. Good luck.

I do think they should check his urine. If they didn’t I’d ask because in an infant it can be very hard to pick up on a UTI. Fever may be the only indicator.
I’m glad to hear that Prevacid is helping with his reflux. Hopefully this will pass soon. Please keep us posted.
January 10, 2007 at 11:05 pm #22105AnonymousInactiveThe dr called this evening, all the tests came back normal. He is just a bit of anemic she said. Other than that his chest x-ray, all the blood work came back normal. Yes she did do a urine test while we were in the office, it was negative for UTI.
He still had 99.8 rectally. I think its normal right? He has been so restless though before he goes to bed, he wakes up every 45-60 min. Since his regular bedtime is at 7:30, he wakes up crying at least 4 times before setteling for the night which is around 11:30 or so.
Today he did not nurse that well. I hope he will nurse better tomorrow. I get so worried. Finally after a 5 long month he is back on my breasts for a little longer, I hope it will continue.
So for the anemic part, she told me to go ahead and get Trivisol with iron, whould that be enough?
January 10, 2007 at 11:18 pm #22106AnonymousInactiveHi Suzie,
Glad to hear all Jay’s tests came back normal. It must be frustrating not to know what’s bothering him though. Bryce also just started on the Trivisol with Iron (or something similar). His iron levels were low.Good luck – I hope Jay gets feeling better & starts nursing better.
January 11, 2007 at 10:06 am #22119AnonymousInactiveThat’s good news that his temp is down now. 99.8 rectally is normal.
I hope he starts nursing better. If he doesn’t you may want to look into increasing his Prevacid dose.
January 11, 2007 at 10:25 pm #22185AnonymousInactiveThank god the dr finally called for Prevacid solutab for us. Jay was not taking the powder easily. We will see how the tabs work. She still would not increase the dose for me. She said for his weight and age 15mg is the max. She would not listen to me.
His nursing did not get better today I’m really sad . Well the dr had said if he doesn’t start eating solids or doesn’t nurse well by wk 4 on meds, to call her back. Hopefully she will refer me to a GI.
