I have read from several sources that Duncan Hines cake mixes are dairy free, but when I looked at the package, there is nonfat milk listed as the last ingredient. Is the information about Duncan Hines being dairy free outdated, or is the nonfat milk not a problem for MSPI?

they JUST went to having dairy, boo hoo. I posted this somewhere…well, in the meantime this is relevant- let me look for the post- i’ll put it after this:
hey everyone,
don’t forget that if you inspect packaging for a ‘Pareve mark’, then it’s dairy free (not soy free) and meat free! Do not just look for the letter ‘P’ as in a capital ‘P’ – look for the whole word or a lower case p: Products with the word “pareve” written out on a label, or the designation p or p are acceptable. If you only see a “U” or “K”, but not the word pareve, then there is no guarantee that the food does not contain dairy ingredients. http://kosherkooking.com/What%20is%20Kosher/pareve%20food.ht m
pa·re·ve (pär-v) also par·ve (pärv)
The adjective ‘pareve’ means that the food item does not contain dairy or meat ingredients, and it was not processed with heat on dairy or meat equipment. Pareve foods are neutral and may be eaten with meat or dairy foods. To ease identification of dairy products (like chocolate, which may or may not contain milk), a “D” or the word “Dairy” accompanies the hechsher [stamp/mark on packaging]. Products which don’t contain milk but are made on machinery that was previously used with milk may have “DE” or Dairy Equipment accompanying the hechsher [stamp/mark on packaging]. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hechsher
OU policy is that dairy or meat items are labeled OU-D and OU Dairy or OU Meat respectively.
An item that is labeled OU without a suffix can be assumed to be pareve. Nonetheless, we recommend checking the ingredients listed on the label, since on rare occasions, the OU-D is inadvertently omitted.
Here is a search engine to find pareve OU marked brands- just type ‘pareve’ under keyword: http://oukosher.org/index.php/products/indexScroll down for some interesting Pareve meals!here it is:duncan hines is no longer dairy free, I think…

do you live anywhere near a kosher bakery? they can make you a non-dairy cake- it’s called pareve- tell them no dairy
or WHole Foods can make one
or look here to find a distributer near you- then check out to see if there’s any pareve (dairy free) cake mixes or if they can order: http://www.manischewitz.com/retail.shtml
