Aidan has RSV, I’m not too concerned, he’s 13 months old (almost) so not in the really high rick of complications age. I just can’t believe these kids can’t catch a break!!!!! The dr. gave me a rx for albuterol to use in the nebulizer (which we conviently have for both me and my older son to use) I gave him the first treatment when we got back from the dr…..BOY that went well, I swear I had to put the poor kid in a headlock while at the same time holding his arms AND trying to get the mask to stay on right b/c it was the smallest size they had and is still too big. I think I got him to take it for about 3-4 mins before I decided to give up. Then I let him play with the mask, put it on me, etc. He finally put it over his own face (he KNOWS what the nebulizer is and where the mask goes, he’s seen Austin do it a million times). I can’t WAIT to give him the second one tonight, at least my husband will be home so I won’t have to do it alone.
UGH poor kid, luckily the doctor said I caught it VERY early. I brought him in as soon as I heard him wheeze (not to mention he was puking and coughing and I know an asthma like cough when I hear one!!!) so on a good note, it was caught early. He’s getting 4 teeth at once (the ones next to the front teeth on top and bottom) so needless to say he is just severly ticked off ALL the time!!!!!! But I’m lucky in the fact that he is still eating and drinking alright. I stopped trying the milk and he won’t drink formula right now but will drink pedialyte and water, so I’m not worried about dehydration.
My mom is watching him for New Year’s eve (we have never gone out on New years before) and is a bit worried about the whole RSV thing but I told her, mom, it’s a virus, nothing anyone can do except give the neb. treatments and motrin, we WILL be going out for new years!!!
December 29, 2006 at 6:21 pm #21298AnonymousInactiveSheesh- what next huh? I’m glad you were able to catch it early, and I hope he’s able to get over it soon!
I’m glad you get to go out for New Years! I bet you could use a break!
December 29, 2006 at 6:54 pm #21300AnonymousInactiveHope he is feeling better soon – good Mommy intuition getting him into the doc so quickly.
Have fun on New Year’s – you certainly deserve it!!

December 29, 2006 at 8:56 pm #21308AnonymousInactiveI am sorry to hear about Aidan…but enjoy your new years…you deserve it!!!! Keep us posted on how he is doing.
December 29, 2006 at 8:56 pm #21309AnonymousInactiveYes, that was wise to get him to the doctor early. I probably wouldn’t have thought RSV. It’s a good thing you knew. I hope he takes his nebulizer treatments and gets over this soon. It sure seems like viruses are just so rampant these days.
Have a Happy New Years’s out.
December 29, 2006 at 9:55 pm #21315AnonymousInactiveThat stinks, Jill. I’m glad you caught it early, so hopefully it won’t be too bad a case. Enjoy your night out.
December 29, 2006 at 9:56 pm #21316AnonymousInactiveshane just had the same thing.. soo much coughing and puking from it and he couldnt catch his breath… 🙁
but the nebulizer does work sooooo well!! it significantly cleared it up within a day or 2.. we also had to let him play with it b4 wearing it.. and while wearing it 😉
i hope aiden feels better soon!
December 30, 2006 at 9:23 am #21330AnonymousInactiveok so Aidan thinks the nebulizer is some kind of torture device!!!! But he slept very well last night-I also bought some robutussin chest congestion and cough medicine, and a decongestant for his nose and I think that helped a lot also!
On a different note, I told my husband that the Dr. Told me that it would get much worse before it gets better (because it’s in the beginning phase I guess) and that I needed him here to help me give Aidan his nebulizer treatments b/c it’s just NOT a one person job!!! And his response??
I’m going to work tomorrow and that’s final!!!! SO I told him the next time HE’S sick I expect him to go to work, and I mentioned that he has people to help HIM at work but I don’t have anyone to help ME at work (at home-lol). He still went but told me to call him if I needed him and he’d come home. I plan on calling in ohhh say about an hour, and if he actually comes home then that will mean pigs are flying and Hell has finally frozen over!!!!!
We’re just going over to my sister’s for New years-she lives about 5 mins away-but if I get really ticked of at him and she’s still mad at her hubby I will suggest that she and I go out together for a tiny bit of champagne and leave the two idiots to sulk at home.
Thanks for all the encouragement you guys, I hope your little ones are all doing good!!!!
December 30, 2006 at 9:52 am #21333AnonymousInactiveCan I send my dh to sulk with them too?
I hope Aidan gets used to the Nebulizer and stops fighting it, and that his RSV clears up soon. How long did the doc say it usually lasts?
December 30, 2006 at 12:30 pm #21339AnonymousInactiveMake sure to let us know if pigs are flying and He!! has finally frozen over (lol) you are too funny!
December 30, 2006 at 7:36 pm #21350AnonymousInactiveLOL nope no snowballs down under as of yet, aidan was ok today, still HATES the nebulizer, but eh, I think it might remind him of the mask they used for the anesthesia when he went in for his tubes on the 13th?
December 30, 2006 at 8:27 pm #21354AnonymousInactiveI hope it gets easier for him…I bet you are right about it reminding him of the anesthesia…keep us posted.
