I’ve read all sorts of different ideas on when and why reflux worsens for some babies. Have any of you found a pattern that you would like to share. I’ve heard some say it worsens as you approach 4 months and others that it does until 6 months. And then there are the lucky who get better as those ages approach. Anyway, the reason I ask is because my son, who just turned 3 months is spitting up WAY more than he used to. He is on a great dose of meds. I am on the elimination diet, and we aren’t really doing anything differently. I can’t figure out what’s going on.
His mucousy vomits have decreased as he has gotten older and is now on good medication, but the after eating burping/watery spit up showers are increasing, and I’m really worried that he is spitting up too much to keep gaining weight. Is this just because he is more active – kicking, moving, etc.? Or is something else going on? He gets really upset about 15-30 minutes after he eats, and it all goes downhill from there. I can’t tell if he is in pain or if he is just uncomfortable from it coming up. He doesn’t scream, just fusses until it comes up, and then he’s fine until it happens again.
The only external change we have made is that we are now using TUMs as a buffer for his Zegerid instead of the Mylanta because the Mylanta gave him horrible gas and stomach cramping. The Tums contain a small amount of soy (guar gum) in them. Could this be causing it?????
It’s really freaking me out because when my daughter was this age, she stopped gaining weight. Her reflux was more of the silent type, but she stopped wanting to eat because she was so uncomfortable. I really don’t want to go down that road again.
