In the grand scheme of things, this isn’t so bad, but I just feel like such a bad mommy! Alex and Kaelyn have both had awful colds for over 2 weeks. I never took them to the ped because they just seemed to be colds and I figured there was nothing the ped could do for them (plus, why expose them to other germs if I don’t have to). Alex had been getting fussier and fussier since Sunday, but kept having good moments, so I didn’t think too much about it. Then I talked to day care and yesterday and she was just an absolute mess. So, off to the ped with both girls. Kaelyn has a history of ear infections with colds, so I figured that I’d have them check her out, just in case. Turns out that both girls have sinus infections and “impressive” ear infections in both ears. It certainly explains why both of them haven’t been interested in eating!

I hate taking them to the peds because they always end up getting something worse while waiting in the office. Lately, I’ve been waiting in the hallway, and the nurses think I’m nuts!
December 14, 2006 at 9:58 am #20362AnonymousInactiveOh, poor sweeties. I hope they feel better soon.
Oh, and I’m always conflicted about whether to take them to the doc or not. 90% of the time you hear “it’s a virus, there’s nothing we can do.” and like you said they often pick up something else, so I hate to take them. In fact, I’ve already decided that Myles is not going in for his 18 month check up because it’s in March….the height of flu season. Last year when I took him for his six month I ended up sick with the flu for 10 days. This year I’ll take him in June.
Lori, that’s a great idea….wait in the hallway. In winter I make my kids leave their mittens on even though it’s like 85% degrees in the office. I’m sure they think I’m a little nuts, too.

December 14, 2006 at 4:17 pm #20399AnonymousInactiveDon’t beat yourself up! I think we’ve all been there before. Parenting is such a guessing game, isn’t it. Sure makes me appreciate my parents sooooo much more. Hope your girls feel better soon!

December 15, 2006 at 12:32 pm #20490AnonymousInactiveThey were doing a little better this morning, so they went back to day care. They can’t give Tylenol without a doctor’s note, so I’m hoping that Alex doesn’t fall apart when her motrin wears off.
