Do any of your babies hiccup a lot? Brianna gets the hiccups almost every time she has a laughing spell (she love to laugh, so I hate to complain that she has the hiccups) Is there some reflux connection?
Brodie always was a big time hiccupper. He still gets them at 2-1/2 years old, after a long laughing spell. He used to get them alot in utero, and then as a baby. I was told it is a symptom of reflux when they are babies, but I don’t know about as a toddler from laughing. RLM4262006-12-12 16:4:53
yep shane gets them a lot. i think it has a lot to do with silent reflux. i notice it when it comes up on shane, and sometimes the way he swallows it back down …it causes the hicups. not sure how it happens.. but that is when i notice it.
Frequent extended hiccups is a common symptom of reflux. Both my girls get them all the time and they last forever. Alexis still gets them if she very active and laughing. Taylor use to get them more when she was younger but when she gets them they last forever! Both girls never seemed bothered by them.
Alana had them a lot before she was properly medicated. I noticed when she was sick last week with gastro they returned, she had a little more spit up which I put down to the gastro, but maybe her reflux flared. Anyway, since well, no more hiccups
Sarah has hiccups every once in a while, but not nearly as often as before the PPI. She used to get them probably once a day or so and now it’s maybe once or twice a week. Sometimes they seem to bother her and sometimes they don’t!
My 3 year old former refluxer still gets them too after a long laughing spell. They last forever for her as well. I didn’t think about them still be a symptom of her reflux, but it makes sense. She still sometime will complain after a burp or a hiccup that she has throw up in her mouth. My son also gets them a lot.. more before the medicine too, but the pediatrician just laughed when I asked him if they were a symptom of reflux. Shows what he knows, huh?
I wonder if hiccups could be related to allergies/intolerances??? Reidun seems to be intolerant to carrots. (A food that is supposed to be easily tolerated.) My Mom get hiccups every time she eats carrots, esp if they are raw. Hmmm…
