I cannot get Isaac to eat anything lately and it is really stressing me out! Nothing I give him is what he wants to eat. He just keeps shaking his head no and crying. It cannot be an ear infection b/c I just was at the dr and they were fine. How can something simple turn into something so big. I have tried distracting him and that doesn’t seem to make a difference at all. He is pretty much only drinking rice milk now-that looks wonderful on the first food diary that I have had to do for him. I feel like I must be doing something wrong.
December 4, 2006 at 1:59 pm #19514AnonymousInactiveI’m sure it’s not you or anything you’re doing. Maybe he’s still refluxing and needs to be back on a PPI. Certainly something is bothering him if he won’t eat anything. How long has this been going on?
I wish I had some advice. I hope you find the answer soon and he is eating again.
December 4, 2006 at 2:13 pm #19517AnonymousInactiveIt really happened over the last week…he started by skipping a meal and now he wants nothing to do with food. The odd thing is his reflux has been doing very well since the switch in his diet-no choking, he has been sleeping better, and has not thrown up in over a week! So that is why this is even more confusing.
December 4, 2006 at 2:21 pm #19521AnonymousInactiveIt’s so hard to tell when they are that little because they can’t tell you. If it’s only been since Saturday I’d just ignore it for a few days and see if he improves. He may just be coming down with something.
I wouldn’t dismiss the idea that it could still be reflux though. As much as I don’t want to believe it, my three yr. old is having problems again with reflux. She’s very verbal so she can describe it very well so I know that’s what it is.
I hope it’s not reflux with Isaac. If it was me I’d probably try a PPI again if he doesn’t improve soon. His doc must think he still has reflux if he’s on Zantac, right?
December 4, 2006 at 2:32 pm #19524AnonymousInactiveYeah he has reflux but we are convinced it is due to milk and soy allergies now. We were trying to just use zantac as long as we could b/c he has spent so much time on a ppi and we are hoping to avoid using a ppi w/the special diet.
Maybe I just got spoiled having the 2 weeks straight of no hunger strikes…..really though I worry b/c I know that rice milk doesn’t have enough fat for his brain development and it just stress me out so much when he won’t eat b/c of that .
December 4, 2006 at 3:14 pm #19530AnonymousInactiveI’d be freaking out too. How is he with taking meds and vitamins? My kids all take flax seed oil by spoon every morning and now they are taking Avacado oil by spoon also. I tell them it’s vitamins and they all take it really well. Maybe you could get some fat into him that way.
December 4, 2006 at 3:32 pm #19531AnonymousInactiveI was thinking of doing that! I was just wondering if it would work I will try that Thank you!
December 4, 2006 at 8:47 pm #19549AnonymousInactiveWould making food more fun help? My daughter went through hunger strikes at times too. What really worked with her was “dip.” We would use ketchup, sour cream, yogurt, whatever she could dip her food into. She loved it. I don’t know what kind of diet your little one is on, but maybe there is something that would work???
December 4, 2006 at 8:55 pm #19551AnonymousInactiveThat’s a great idea! My girls love dips, too. We do salsa around here. Not many calories there, but maybe you can find something he’d like and then add some oil to it to boost the calorie and fat content.
December 5, 2006 at 12:20 am #19568AnonymousInactiveDo you think he could have a sore throat?? I know this is one thing that made my kids not want to eat. Or could he be teething? Some of those molars can be really miserable.
Just throwing out ideas…
December 5, 2006 at 6:57 am #19574AnonymousInactiveSo sorry to read your post Sarah. Have to run and I’ll post later- Hailey just woke up with fever almost 103. We go through the same thing. I’ll write back later with what I’ve learned. As for the food diary- I think it’s good that they see the pattern of behaviour so don’t worry about that- maybe they’ll take things more seriously. HUGS.
