My little guy is finally figuring out that the little nuggets I put on his tray are food and he’s actually starting to sample some things. He still spits a lot of stuff out (mostly fruits and veggies), but he tries most things. He used to just throw everything on the floor. I’m so proud of him, and I finally have reason to feel optimistic that I won’t have to feed him purees forever.
He’s sampling some of the dry fruits and veggies from http://www.justomatoes.com and I think he’s starting to like them, or at least get used to them.
His favorite healthy food right now……almond butter and jam sandwiches. Yippee!!
He even feeds himself with a fork.
Oh, and he’s eating yogurt and Lentil soup. Great sources of protein!!!
And he’s drinking water from a straw cup at every meal!
I just wanted to share because I know all of you will understand how exciting this is for me, and also hopefully it will encourage some of you who have picky eaters.

I can’t believe he’s fork-feeding at such a young age. And lentil soup… I know lots of kids without feeding issues who would never touch the stuff! Sounds like he’s doing great. Thanks for the update!

I just LOVE good news!!

November 9, 2006 at 3:15 pm #17542AnonymousInactiveAwesome news, Christine!!!!!! I know how wonderful this is, Brodie didn’t eat real food, (meaning not pureed baby food) until 13 months, when his cousin who is the same age was scarfing down Stage 3 baby food at 8 months!!!! Great Job Myles!!!!!!!
November 9, 2006 at 4:19 pm #17544AnonymousInactiveWow, that’s so great Christine! Thanks for sharing. It’s always good to hear something encouraging. Hopefully things will just get easier from here for you and Myles.
November 9, 2006 at 7:49 pm #17552AnonymousInactiveawesome!!!! way to go Myles!!!!!!
November 9, 2006 at 8:07 pm #17557AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone! I hope he continues to try new things and learns to like more foods, but for now I’m just thrilled that he’s eating anything besides purees. He ate 1/4 of an almond butter and jam sandwich for supper tonight (!!) plus some purees and a few bite-sized rice cakes.
The fork thing surprises me, too. I just gave him one a few weeks ago and he just knew what to do with it. He stabbed a piece of toast and ate it! I was amazed.
November 9, 2006 at 8:14 pm #17559AnonymousInactiveAidan has a serious spoon issue, he knows what it’s suposed to do and he REALLY wants to figure out how to do it himself..needless to say we have a lot of yogurt masterpieces all over the floor, walls, me, him, the cat, etc etc because in the end he gives up and sticks his hand into the yogurt and by that time I’ve given up and am just like whatever go for it everything’s got yogurt on it anyway!!!-I am going to look into the dried fruits and veggies on that site, Aidan likes the gerber ones, well not the corn it doesn’t disolve very well…..it’s very cool when we see them do something that we had no idea they knew how to do, but they’ve picked it up from watching everyone else!!!!
November 9, 2006 at 8:16 pm #17560hellbenntKeymasterwhoo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
November 9, 2006 at 8:38 pm #17565AnonymousInactiveJill, have you seen the Gerber “Dippers”? They’re great because babies can use them like a spoon but they don’t scoop up as much as a spoon does, so it helps to contain the mess some. Myles is not good with a spoon either, but he does better with the dippers.
November 9, 2006 at 9:45 pm #17588AnonymousInactiveyay that’s great, i cant’ wait until my dd is eating solid foods….., pretty soon they will be scarfing down mccdonalds burger king what have you!!!! or if they are vegetarian veggie burgers at mCcdonalds. not that that s$$% is good anyways, anyways im rambling…gracegirl2006-11-9 21:46:44

way to go!
November 10, 2006 at 4:33 pm #17643hellbenntKeymaster(Jonah at almost 3 & 1/2 still uses his fingers occaisionally, most often at times when I wish he’d be showing off his best manners)
