She did FANTASTICLY! When they went in, they found damage on the outside of her esophagus, which the surgeon said is only found in the worst cases of reflux. So, I’m really glad that we went through wtih the surgery. She did have to have a G Button (feeding tube) put into her stomach, but you can hardly notice it. It hopefully will come out in 2 months and close up nicely, sorta like a earring hole would. Just in the past few days, she is like a brand new baby! NO VOMITING AT ALL! She is back on the the Prevacid for the next few weeks while she heals and to help the acid damage heal on her esophagus, and then she will go off the meds completely! and hopefully forever! I am so glad that we went through with this. Hopefully, it will be all down hill from here.
October 15, 2006 at 8:39 am #15728AnonymousInactiveThat’s great Amanda! Good news. I hope that she has an easy recovery. I’ve never heard of damage on the outside- I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but was there damage on the inside as well? (And how do they see the outside?)
Congrats again.

October 15, 2006 at 11:47 am #15735AnonymousInactiveHey, Lori. No, that doesn’t sound stupid at all. Infact, I wondered the same thing. Apparently, all the reflux meds work from the inside of the esophagus out. Well, she was on a high enough dosage to keep the inside of her esophagus clear of damage and irritation, but apparently, not high enough to protect the outside. At least that’s how it was explained to me. And they were able to see the outside because when they did the surgery, they made an inicision instead of going in laproscopically.

October 15, 2006 at 4:27 pm #15748AnonymousInactiveCongratulations Amanda!
I’m so glad she’s doing so well. I bet that was scary to go through, but it sounds like it was a good choice. Hope things continue to improve from here!
October 15, 2006 at 7:09 pm #15753AnonymousInactiveGood news! I hope she continues to do well and can be off meds for good. It must have been very scary for you to put her through surgery, but a relief to know you did the right thing.
October 17, 2006 at 2:56 pm #15896AnonymousInactiveglad it went well—-i have been wondering how her surgery went. i’ve never heard about the damage on the outside. why did they opt for and open fundo rather than a lap fundo? i guess they each have their advantages and disadvantages. did they do the g-button for feeding or for venting? they didn’t put a feeding tube in with sylvia’s fundo because she was a good eater——we didn’t start having feeding problems until AFTER surgery. she had a feeding tube hanging over her head twice after her surgery—but we managed to get enough weight on both times!!
it took me a little while to get used to the idea that i didn’t have to woryy about her spitting up all over everything and that i didn’t need spit rags anymore—-does that sound familiar??LOL!!!
i hope things continue to go well!!!
October 20, 2006 at 1:50 am #16170AnonymousInactivethey did an open fundo because the surgeon said that they have a better success rate then the laproscopic ones. They inserted the g-button for feeding and venting, but we aren’t using it for feeding right now.
She is still doing so great! It’s like I have a brand new baby. She can actually sleep on her back wtihout me worrying all night!
