I have 6 week old twins and both have reflux. It’s terrible. My son(twin A if it makes a difference) is the worst. He screams and cries all day and we were put on Zantac(.1 3 times per day) but it seems to make no difference. Nights are the worst. He constantly wants to be held upright and we get no sleep. H arches his back as if in pain a lot and I am at a loss. We’ve been to the pedi every week, sometimes more then once, and they are of no help. I don’t know what to do. My daughter doesn’t cry but she is clearly uncomfortable and spits up after every feed, even just a little, sometimes projectile. She also sounds very congested and I’ve tried everything. Elevating his head doesn’t work, swing, bouncy seat does nothing either. Please help! They are very unhappy babies due to this. Also my son has allergies to milk and soy and is now taking nutramigen. He seems ok on that(no blood in stool)February 13, 2006 at 4:50 pm #1472AnonymousInactiveyou need to see a ped gi. they are so much better at treating infant reflux. it sounds like the zantac isn’t working. PPI’s work so much better. i have twins, they didn’t have reflux as babies, but they have it now at 14.
February 13, 2006 at 7:00 pm #1479AnonymousInactiveI agree with Christine, both about needing to see a gi and about exploring a PPI. Zantac did nothing for us, and we didn’t get a ton of help from our bouncy seat either. Prilosec was a lifesaver for us at that age.
February 13, 2006 at 7:02 pm #1480AnonymousInactiveAlso wanted to add that we found The Happiest Baby on the Block to be a lifesaver at that age, I can’t tell you how thankful I still am for it. Check out the video–I found it to be more helpful than the book. They are both by Harvey Karp, MD and can be found at most libraries.
February 13, 2006 at 7:22 pm #1482AnonymousInactiveI agree with the ladies above, see a Peds GI since they are more aggressive on their treatment of reflux. Sometimes it is quite hard to get in to see one right aways, see if you MD is willing to start a PPI inadditon to the Zantac which is what worked for us. Alexis was on Prilosec and Zantac we still of course had bad days but we finally saw good days.

For sleep, getting the tucker sling ( http://www.tuckersling.com ) was a life saver. he still isn’t a great sleeper but it beats holding them all night. Zantac was like water, it did nothing for my guy.
I can’t imagine having two with reflux. My heart goes out to you! I hope you have someone that can let you catch a nap.
