This is probably a long shot, but has anyone been to a Ped. GI in Utah? We have an appt. with a Dr. Molly O’Gorman at Primary Children’s, and I’m just wondering how she is. I guess I’m just nervous about dealing with a new doctor. (This will be our first time seeing a GI). I just pray she’ll be able to pinpoint what’s causing all of Bryce’s problems.
Bryce’sMom 2006-9-14 9:52:58 September 14, 2006 at 10:25 am #13543AnonymousInactiveGood luck Heather. You might want to check out the link in Laura’s intro on finding a ped GI. I don’t have it handy, but I’ll try to pull it and post the link for you. Hope the appointment goes well.
September 14, 2006 at 11:33 am #13547AnonymousInactiveThanks, Lori. I’ve actually already looked through all that, and I did find a recommendation for another ped. GI (I think she works at the same place as the one we’ll be going to). I guess if we aren’t happy with ours, we could switch to hers.
September 14, 2006 at 12:55 pm #13560AnonymousInactiveHopefully you won’t need to switch. Often doctors that work in the same practice follow the same approach. Keep us posted. When’s the appointment?
September 14, 2006 at 3:51 pm #13581AnonymousInactiveYeah, that’s what I’m hoping. I’m sure she’ll be fine. I’m just being paranoid .
His appointment isn’t until Oct. 6th (we’ve been waiting forever), but lately his weight has really become an issue. He’s 9 mo. old and only weighs about 12 lb. 9 oz (last week). He spits up SO much that he just hasn’t been gaining the past few weeks, even with fortifying his milk. The OT & nurse that come in every week are really concerned, so we contacted my reg. doc. She called the GI to see if we could get in any sooner. The best she could do was get us moved to the top of the cancellation list. So hopefully we can get in sooner.
September 14, 2006 at 7:32 pm #13602AnonymousInactiveheather—where in utah do you live? i originally tried to get sylvia in to primary children’s, but i couldn’t even get an appt made. we ended up going to boise and have been VERY happy with our ped gi. he actually has been on staff in the past at primary children’s. the only name at primary children’s i am familiar with is a dr. book.
September 14, 2006 at 9:29 pm #13619AnonymousInactiveHey Christine,
Wow, I think you’re the closest person to me I’ve met so far!We live in central Utah, just south of Provo, if you know where that is. I think Boise is about 5 or 6 hours from here.
I’m sure we’ll be fine with the doc at Primary’s. So far every doctor/surgeon I’ve met there has been outstanding.
September 14, 2006 at 10:09 pm #13622AnonymousInactiveheather, i lived in provo for 5 years when i was a little girl. my daughter is in provo right now at the MTC—–she is going to be going to oakland, cal. next month.
September 15, 2006 at 1:11 am #13635AnonymousInactiveChristine,
That’s great that your daughter gets to go out to California next month! I bet she’s excited. So are your parents originally from Utah, or did they just move there temporarily when you were little?Bryce’sMom2006-9-15 1:12:27
September 17, 2006 at 12:27 am #13772AnonymousInactivemy grandfather was from utah, my grandmother was from idaho, but they raised their family in new jersey. my parents had lived in provo early in their marriage and went to the Y. i was born in louisiana, moved to new jersey when my parents divorced, then we moved to provo so my mom could go back to school. i can’t believe how much provo has changed since i used to live there. do you know provo very well?
September 17, 2006 at 1:42 am #13773AnonymousInactiveRight now I live in Elk Ridge, which is just south of Provo (about 30 min.), but I lived in Provo for about a year when I went to college and have lived in other surrounding cities (although I’m originally from St. George in so. Utah). So anyway, I’m really familiar with Provo. Even now we go there quite a bit to stores, doctors, etc.
Bryce’sMom2006-9-17 1:42:57September 18, 2006 at 12:01 am #13835AnonymousInactiveat one time we lived in a house right by the city park with the swimming pool. i went to timpanogas grade school and used the under pass to get there—–does any of this sound familiar?
September 18, 2006 at 1:16 am #13837AnonymousInactiveI know the park with the swimming pool. My husband and I used to go there when we were dating. It’s also close to our doctor. I’m not sure where timpanogas grade school is though.
October 17, 2006 at 9:46 pm #15937AnonymousInactiveHi Heather,
I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. My little guy has been so fussy lately it is hard to get to the computer.
How’d your appointment go?
We live in Blackfoot ID and have been seeing Molly O’Gorman and Debra Leaner there since the end of March. It took us forever to get in too.
The experience has been a bit disjointed and confusing for us. I hope that it goes better for you. My Ped said that Molly O’Gorman is a fine physician and a wonderful person.
They originally told me that is who my appointment was with but it turned out to be with Debra Leaner with Molly O’Gorman just poking her head in quickly and handing me perscriptions and Oking Debra Leaner’s game plan. They both seemed nice.
They didn’t say anything about another appointment and that was it. Then my pediatrician e-mailed Molly about how I should approach feeding with David because of all his problems. About a month later, I got a call from a nurse there seeing how we were doing with the advise they had given my doctor and wanting to make an appointment to follow up. The appointment they set up was a long way away.
It turned out that a follow up appointment should have been set up the first time we were there but no one said anything about it. Since we were having problems, I said that was OK but asked them just to check with Debra Leaner and see if she really wanted it to be that long before she saw him again. I got a call back asking if I could come down in two days. I discovered that they have days (or parts of days) that they don’t schedule appointments at all but they will fit people in on them if they want to see them. She set up another appointment with us for six weeks later scheduling it the same way.
So I guess what I’ve learned is make sure you ask the doctor before you leave when they want to see you again and if you want to get their attention or are having problems getting needed appointements, try having your pediatrician ask them about something. That seemed to spur a lot of activity for us.
One thing we’ve run into there as well is that they were not interested in scoping to find out what was really going on. They said they only did it if a baby was losing weight. With your baby struggling so much in that area, you might not have the same problem.
We finally decided to try Christine’s Dr. in Boise and he’s awsome. It is the first time I left a Ped. GI appointment feeling like we were finally on the right track for my little guy.
On a different note, I went to college in Provo too and my oldest son was there last fall for college and in the MTC in February. He’s in Louisianna now in a suburb of New Orleans.
I hope your appointment went well!

October 17, 2006 at 10:59 pm #15942AnonymousInactiveHi Kara,
Thanks for your postWell, we originally had an appointment with O’Gorman, but we ended up (luckily) getting moved to the top of the waiting list and ended up seeing a different doctor – Dr. Jackson (along with Debra Lener). Dr. Jackson was really good and seemed open minded. He was okay with us being on a higher than usual dose of Prevacid. Like you said, he didn’t want to do any testing. He said it was easier to rule things out by trying different medicines (in our case for Delayed Gastric Emptying). They actually rescheduled us after our first appointment without us asking, but it may have been because of Bryce’s weight issues. We’ve been back once and saw Debra Lener. I have mixed feelings about her. Sometimes she seems so nice, and other times she kind of treats you like you’re stupid & like she knows it all. The second time we went back she kind of changed her tune and told us that they were uncomfortable with him being on such high doses of meds. She said Dr. Jackson said that, but after the way he acted about it when we saw him, I wonder if she made that up. Anyway, so overall we’ve been happy with them. Bryce is doing better now. We’ve been able to reduce the spitting up a lot and he’s finally gaining weight better.
That’s neat that you and your son both went to college in Provo! -
