i need some ideas.

Trace is getting bored of his toys (rattles and such), and his bouncy, and his swing. he has a baby einsten dvd which hes getting bored of too. i dont know what to do with him anymore!!

help, im going nuts 🙁

That age is so tough. Is he able to sit up enough to sit in an exersaucer? You could pack some blankets around him to support him a little better. They usually have a variety of toys to look at and play with.

How about going for a stoller ride? I know Abby liked that at that age.

I’ll keep thinking….

One trick is to rotate toys. That’s what I do with all of my children. I buy lots of toys (many are used; from rummage sales, thrift stores, clearance, ebay, etc). and I put the huge majority of them up on shelves in their closets. Every other week or so I rotate…..put away the toys they are now bored with and take out “new” toys. They act like it’s Christmas every time! You’d think they’d never seen these toys before and they have so much fun with them.

Trace is not too young to be bored with his toys. I rotated toys when my babies were that little. For instance, I had more than one mobile and I’d change them from time to time, and I had little toy arches or baby gyms and I’d change the toys on those every few days. But, since he’s too young to play with toys by himself he’ll need mostly you for entertainment. Talking to him, singing to him, walking around the house with him. rRead books to him, play music and dance with him. My babies at that age usually would only spend 15 minutes or so laying under a baby gym, looking at a mobile, sitting in a bouncy seat, etc. They love interaction more than anything else.

Girl, I am right there with ya. I guess the only difference with us is that I have a 2 yr old too. My 2 yr old entertains my little one. It is really tough to spend special time with Justice, but I would love ideas too. Some of the things I did when I was a nanny were: sing, read books, dance to music, smell spices, bright flash cards, going for a walk, and I can’t remember the rest. With the flash cards we just started out with the letters A-D, Mommy, and Daddy. One of the babies really loved the flash cards and so does my son. There are books out there too that will give you suggestions. Sorry, I can’t think of anything else.

I have one for going in the car,too…

the best book I can recommend is Pat the Bunny because if you start that now, buy the time they’re I forget 8 or 9 months (maybe 10?) then they actually start to DO the little activities in the book! it’s AMAZING! – I used to do this one before nap time…

this all sounds boring, but actually it helps you not be bored if you (& baby) know what comes ‘next’

im going to look for that pat the bunny book. and flash cards too. and i will rotate toys.

yeah i think the main thing is i have no mommy friends! its rough! how can i find babywearers?

I was SO bored with Sarah, that I thought I’d go insane. She woke up at 5am, and could never entertain herself. She finished her bottle in 2 minutes flat, so that never really took up any time, and she only napped for about 30 minutes. I did so many classes with her to keep myself sane. It really helped to get out with other moms. With Hailey, she was so difficult that I really had no time to think about being bored. And I didn’t feel the same way about it for some reason. Maybe because she’s my second, I don’t know. But I remember I was counting down the days until Sarah started daycare (I know that makes me sound like the worse mom). Then I found out I was pregnant again a few days after she started, and was so happy that I’d be home again to enjoy her. For some reason, I found that when I had a bit of a break from her, I realized how much I missed our time together.

BTW, Pat the Bunny was a big hit around here too. Flash cards were popular also (she loved the munchkin ones that are all bound up with a handle), mainly for eating I think… It really does get easier once they can sit up.

I signed up for gymborree play classes around that time too. I was ready to crack with my “big” kids at school all day and no mommy friends nearby. Also, we did mommy/baby swim classes around 6 months old. It was great, didn’t matter if she spit up!

he’s NOT too young for the exersaucer. i started putting sylvia in her’s when she was around that age.(maybe slightly younger) i would prop her up really good with blankets—-her feet would just dangle, but she loved it. i think it made her happy because it made her feel better. being upright helped her reflux. she didn’t last an overly long time in it, but it gave her some variety and i think it was one of the few things that made her happy, besides being held.

Yeah, I put my babies into the exersaucer between 3 and 4 months. Some pillows or rolled up blankets helped to keep them from shifting or sliding around. They all really enjoyed being upright and it gave me a break for a little while.
