The basic thing to remember is that you can have all fruits and veggies; most meat, poultry and fish preparations (obviously without cheese or cream sauces); not many sweet baked goods (muffins, cakes, etc.); some plain baked goods (bagels, wheat bread); few desserts (maybe some fruit-based). So concentrate on the fruits/veg. and you’ll be
fine. And here’s a list of ingredients to avoid while on a milk free diet:

Sodium Stearoyl LactylateKeep in mind that derivatives can be hidden in some unsuspecting places (ie., Hylands Teething Tablets, Trident gum, brown sugar flavoring, canned tuna, some vitamins, some deli meats, some toothpastes, some soap products, etc.) so it is crucial to read every label.
July 5, 2006 at 10:46 am #11053AnonymousInactiveHi Amy,
I just wanted to add that manufacturers change ingredients from time to time as well, so some items on the list may be OK today but not always. You should still check lables, but we had a list like this when we were strict no milk/soy with Dylan and it helped tons!!!
This will be a great help to many parents!

May 8, 2007 at 10:03 pm #32681AnonymousInactiveHi All!
Dagney’s almost to the finger food point, and I was trying to find some good ideas for her to start off with. I found this in a search, and wanted to “bump” it up again. Also, when you say “safe” butter and milk, what is that exactly? I don’t want to end up buying the wrong things!
May 9, 2007 at 2:00 pm #32718AnonymousInactiveI think it means “butter” or “milk” without any dairy. (like Smart Balance Light Butter)
May 9, 2007 at 8:39 pm #32754AnonymousInactiveFleishman’s Light butter in the tub is milk and soy free.
“Safe” milk would probably be rice, potato, almond, etc.
I love this list and had forgotten about it – thanks for bumping it up!
May 10, 2007 at 9:01 am #32792AnonymousInactiveBump, Bump, Bump! Thanks so much for finding and bumping this!!! Addy is starting on a lot of new foods this week…yay! And I was having a hard time figuring out what to feed her that was milk free! THANK YOU!!!!
May 10, 2007 at 12:48 pm #32810AnonymousInactiveMy absolute favorites for dairy AND soy free are:
Amy’s vegetable pizza w/no cheese- This is out of this world. I could eat it twice a day.
Amy’s dairy free burritos: Black bean and rice and bean and veggie.
Progresso soups: split pea with bacon and classic vegetable.
And, of course, my staple–Cheerio’s with rice milk!!!
May 11, 2007 at 2:27 pm #32884AnonymousInactiveHmmm…what were my favorites when I was dairy/soy free:
Loved Kix with rice milk (I loved the vanilla flavor)
pepperidge farm 100% whole wheat bagels were dairy/soy (they do have soy oils, but most MSPI can antle that )free..w smart balance light and some jelly…not bad
rice dream Ice Cream…I lived on this.
Good luck mommies on the finger foods. This list really does help!
May 12, 2007 at 9:47 am #32978AnonymousInactiveEmily, Does this mean that soybean oil is not too irritating to our LO’s? I think my diet could be expanded greatly if I could include some soybean oil. What about soy lecithin? That seems to be in everything. How does your DD react to these??
May 14, 2007 at 9:56 am #33132AnonymousInactiveAbby does not react to the soy lecithin and she can tolerate soybean oil in small amounts. I made her 1st birthday cake but the cake, icing and the oil that I used all had soybean oil it and she threw up after she ate it. Don’t think it agreed with her. But she can take small amounts of butter that has soybean oil in it.

May 14, 2007 at 3:01 pm #33197AnonymousInactiveJus t wanted to make you all aware…….McD’S FRYS DO HAVE MILK IN THEM….they’re flavored with beef that has the milk.
Wendy’s do not have milk or soy. They’re fried in the same oil as the chic. nuggets so I avoid them.
Also, Rice Dream frozen dessert could have trace amt. of milk. Check the label carefully.
When I’am craving something breaded I go for Tyson chicken nuggets (dinosaur shaped, lol).
Check http://www.foodallergy.org they say soybean oil and leitchicin are okay.
Good list overall.
eli-n-evansmum2007-5-14 15:5:32
May 14, 2007 at 3:12 pm #33200AnonymousInactiveIs there milk or soy in Wendy’s chicken nuggets?
That’s good to know about McDonald’s fries, Abby loves them.
Andrea
May 14, 2007 at 3:20 pm #33201AnonymousInactiveThere’s milk in the nuggets. Most fast food places have milk in there nuggets for binding. Can’t remember about the soy.
I also like tortillas. Many are safe. Make great lunch wraps and breakfast burittos.
eli-n-evansmum2007-5-14 15:23:4
May 14, 2007 at 7:19 pm #33218AnonymousInactivei bought ians gluten free chicken nuggets at our health food store today. they are free of milks, soy, wheat, gluten, eggs. they are pricey though.
May 15, 2007 at 8:37 pm #33366AnonymousInactiveNatalia, have you tried the chicken nuggets yet? Kaelyn hated them. She likes the fish sticks though. They also have a chicken tenders meal where the pieces of chicken are bigger. She likes those much better than the nuggets.
